That's some of the most impressive stuff I've seen done with a 2wd 5lug. That's awesome! Go Tacos!

I know the prerunner and 4x4 are rated to tow 6500 pounds if they have the tow package, and the only thing that package adds is the hitch, engine/trans coolers, larger alt/battery, and wiring for a brake controller.

But the base Tacoma is built on a different frame, isn't it? I'm not sure whether the frame is the same with different front suspension attachment points, or if it is a different frame altogether.

Really? Humm. Well, we do pull that forklift now and then...that's 6,000 lbs lift plus 2,000 lbs trailer weight...so that's 8k roughly...which would be 1,500 over the rated if what you say is true.

I think that's probably OK, they usually over-engineer these things anyways.

Perhaps I missed it although is this a "Auto" trans? Also did you replace tires w/ original sized items?

Great story, That's what a truck is for!

Were did you get your leaf springs. I have a 4x4 regular cab and if i have to dirt bikes in the bed and some camping gear it feels like its going to lift the front end off the ground

Cool report. Good to see a tacoma working (even over it's rated limits, nice to know it can handle it). Hope you do another report next year!
