I remember last time they wanted to strike one lady was on the news complaining that minimum wage wasn't enough to support her 5 children. Apparently it doesn't cross some peoples minds to not keep popping out kids of they're working at Burger King. Also come to Reading Pa you. Can get yourself a house for $20k.

I was fortunate enough to have already learned enough construction skills working for my dad to get on as a carpenter's helper later , skills I aquired prior to getting my first job .

    WTF does WAG mean ?

My first job (after 6 years in the Air Force) landed me $4.25/hr in 1989. I had an apartment over a laundry mat for $230/ month, and a $400 1977 Monte Carlo that I still miss to this day. Living the dream. However, I was quick to realize that the more I knew how to do around the shop, the better I did. Now, I'm doing much better.

The problem seems to be that no one can be happy with their own lot. Everyone is too busy wanting what the guy ahead of them has.

We had the big class structure battles at the turn of the last century, which really didn't work themselves out till the middle of it. Now we've had unions which have kept some workers wages move up with the rise in inflation, so that 1 person can still cover a family on their own, while the rest have had to resort to a 2 income household.

So we have a society now where a bus driver, a service worker, who in 40's would have been not much better off than any of the other low wage jobs, now making sometimes more than city Councillors.

So where does that leave the new service workers of today? Well we have another class war, where those currently on the bottom are looking up at the rest of us, and they're looking for their share.
