    8.00 an hour* 40 hour work week= 320-taxes =275ish
    275*4= 1100 a month....

    rent of 800/month split between 2 (wife,gf,bf,lover,babymama, friend..pick one).. 400
    Food budgeted 200
    Bus fare--25
    Straight talk phone..no Data-- 30
    TV/Internet-- 50 between 2 people--25
    Utilities-- 100 your half
    Total bills for you-- 775

1100-775= 325 a month to do whatever with... car payment, save for rainy day... pay your baby mama.... whatever you want to do with it... Sounds pretty good to have no education whatsoever.. oh and im sure you would get GOVT help because you make so little.. I dont mind people getting it that work or that ACTUALLY cant work (disabled).. but the bums that sit on their A$$' and expect it because they can and the govt will give it is ridiculous

So to have no education and make 1100 a month.. sounds good to me... stop your bitchn and work your ass off... Before i became a paramedic (which we dont make much more with 2 years education and a degree) i worked 2 jobs and went to school to make it by... I still have 2 simi-part time jobs along with my full time (a few days a month at one and work on computers on the side)... you want that car, fancy phone, nice bling... work for it you lazy bum... Get more than one job.. then if you work 60 or 80 hours a week thats 1800-2200 a month... and if you cant make it on that, then its time to reevaluate your life, go to school and live within your means...

Some of your number are debatable.

You can't share a bus pass, or fare... I would up that to $60 for a pass, and $80 paying by fare, and the fare price only counts 2 trips a day, back and forth to work, 5 days a week, no extra trips. And I would like to see how much and what kind of food you think a person could get for $200 a month. I would double that, drop the cable etc, and you still get a person who would find it hard to crawl out from under that weight.

And yet paying myself only $1,000 a month for over a year (when the last financial crisis hit) I was able to do exactly that. It wasn't easy as I've already posted. I had other shit going on but, I did it. Did it with zero late payments and took zero hand outs even though I was qualified.

ok even then your still in the + side regardless of bus fare lets bump it up to 100 a month..... And if you cant live on $200 on food as a single person then your living above your means... Raman at walmart is .46cents a pack... x 3 meals a day is 1.50 a day... plus water comes out of the Tap with your utilites... and Mac and cheese is .88 a box, Cereal is 4.00 a box, Box of Bubba burgers (12 patties) 14.95.. Canned soup, cambles, .80 a can, Canned veggies and fruits .80-1.25 a can. Bread from ingles, 1.00 a loaf, Jif Peanut butter 3.00 Hotdogs 2.00 Milk 4.00 .....

45.00 for 3x a day for 30 Days of Raman (yes it would get boring but they have multiple flavors and hey your living on a budget)
10.00 for 2.6LBS of ground Beef (ingles, just got some today)
8.90 for 8 Patties of Frozen Fish
    1.50 Head of Lettuce
3.00 for pack of 6 Tomatos
8.80 for 10 boxes of Mac and Cheese (Kraft the good stuff :D )
8.00 for 2 boxes of Cereal
15.00 for 12 Burger patties (bubba Burgers from walmart)
8.00 for 10 cans of Cambells soup
8.00 for 10 cans of veggies
8.00 for 10 cans of fruit
2.00 for 2 loafs of bread (ingles brand)
3.00 for peanut butter (could get store brand for cheaper but i like JIF)
2.00 for 8 pack hotdogs (cheap brand)
    4.00 a gallon x2. is 8.00 (store brand)

Ok so i just filled your grocery cart for a little more than $140.. So now you have $60 and can get whatever else you want, yogurt, soda, chips, crackers, cookies, beer, ect... Also if you shop at places like ingles, and walmart you can get BOGO's (buy one get ones) and things are on sale ALL the time.. Also the Dollar stores and Dollar generals now sell food for cheap... so 200 a month is Very doable.. My wife and I, when i was out of work from surgery, could pull it off easy...

Don't forget to add in TP, soap, shampoo, razors, laundry soap, laundry coin, they will need clothes for work... even minimum wage sometimes requires nicer than good will can provide, or second hand stores sell. Basic makeup for woman.

I suppose medical bills in the States, as will as meds, as most minimum wage jobs do not cover such things. And with that food list, they won't be all that healthy in the long run.

Everyone seems to be looking at this issue so superficially. I imagine more than a few on TW could pull off living on nothing, or next to nothing for a while. And if most of the basics have been covered off for a while, than it's just a big inconvenience. Drawers and closets all ready stocked with nice clothes for work and play, bought and payed for washers and dryers, no coin required, a couple of months of razors under the sink, being relativity healthy from eating a long term good diet, house paid off, or payments under control. Maybe some rainy day money in the bank in case of such an emergecy.

So if the idea or plan is to hold down the minimum wage worker, or make them feel like they should be happy that they get anything... then I suppose no one here feels that they themselves deserve a raise, or has ever been part of a union strike to get more?

no one is tryin to hold down these workers. most minimum wage jobs are entry level and not a career oriented job. also, even if you start out making minimum wage, it is still possible to get raises with out raising the minimum wage. do a good job and work hard and you get rewarded

Eat a salad? Like a salad from McDonald's?? Or do they use low quality, cancer lettuce in their salads?

Not at all.. I do believe there is a place for Minimum wage workers.. What im saying is it can be done while they are working towards higher calling better work and better money. There is no reason why a fastfood worker should be working there at the age of 45... this should be a stepping stone to make some money while working or going to school to get something better, but to raise the minimum wage up to say 14 an hour for sake of argument you are saying that jobs like i do mean little to nothing to the society. The reason i say little to nothing is because if it means as much to you that people save lives as it does your fast food then that is really sad... yes i know i keep going back to my job as my support for my argument but i cant be the only one that thinks that a fast food worker should not make as much or more than they do after going to school, training con-ed ect. Should a Lawyer make $15 an hour... how good do you think he will save your ass in court, How about a doctor.. if he makes 15 an hour do you think hes going to want to work harder to help you?.. yes there are scum out there that dont care even though they make way more than that but thats not my point. A minimum wage job is a stepping stone.. not a path... If this is the true way of thinking of the american people then there is no reason why everyone shouldnt quit their jobs and go work for fast food and walmart....

if flipping burgers was a highly skilled profession...and there were more burger joints in a particular town than skilled burger flippers...wouldn't those "flippers" be in a position to be compensated more than a town where there were more "flippers" than burger joints?

I did too.....these places are a good stepping stone for young people to start off & realize that they should better themselves. I worked my ass off for that minimum wage in high school & realized quickly that I wanted better things in life.
