you have said its about choice, and if a business owner doesn't want to pay the higher wage then they can sell to someone who does. Choice. I know that would be unfortunate for them, but they choose to run a business. They could fire 25% of the people, they could raise prices, they could make any number of choices about how to adjust.

I'm thinking the 25% let go is more the corporate mentality. And is another reason for my point, not educating yourself, either self or formal is to be blind by not understanding the ramifications.

For those of you that have a job that pays ok and don't think the minimum wage should be increased when was the last time you got a raise? Well the people working for the likes of McD's have not had one in 4 years and if the industry has anything to do with it, it will be another 4 years. The under paid people working are draining the system because they cannot afford to pay for even the basic necessities so keep them down where they belong and don't cry about them being on any form of public assistance let them eat the food McD throws out. News flash they are not all village idiots that can do nothing other than flip burgers a large percentage would prefer their old jobs back without having to move to India.

No my argument is that They have the ability but through the use of many old recycled pre 20th century arguments they try and convince people that its not fair for others to win their game. Its a stacked deck. Whats wrong with america is that some people thing that its every man for themselves and might equals right.

This is a post you made in another thread. It tells me a lot about where you're coming from.

See, I do ok, I'm not rich. I would love to sell more work, but I make enough. So that should bolster my argument, because if the minimum wage was raised it would disproportionately effect the people making just more than the new wage and those on salary that make less than average. But the idea is, If Jim Whatsit from what ever place can afford to by one of my cups I get more. Jim buys a new car, jim pays for his own medical, jim doesn't cost the rest of us 240 bucks a month in services. Then everyone is better off

Its not like they don't have options to better themselves right? College, Vocational schools, Even Government assisted Vocational programs. And being the low income I'm quite sure it could be Government assisted with educational assistance.

One of my Techs, who is from another country was flipping burgers and got fed up with it and went to a vocational school, got enough know how and tools to where he became a technician, then wanting to advance and accomplish more he went to college and just this year received a degree in Engineering and is now and Engineer.
Desire is everything, you want a better life go get it, don't expect it.

Artruck, I just read about the last 100 post you made NOT in this thread...mostly in the government shutdown thread.

I really do enjoy conversation especially with people I don't agree with...I think you and I could talk until the day we die. I'm not sure we could be further apart....and when I think about that it's almost seems like we were raised in two different countries. Which is kinda cool even if we don't agree.

Now if you'll just admit you're wrong. :))

And to read up on his life is a bit disturbing, it seems he had a troubled and odd life, likewise a few in his family.

I do okay at my job working for a large insurance company. I also invested 4 years and a lot of coin into getting a college degree. I work a part time job for a non-profit where I barely make minimum wage. That job has a lot of perks, flexibility of scheduling..work at home..free phone and computer.

I have worked in fast food for a while in my younger years, and yes I believe for some of the BS I put up with it was worth more than minimum wage. 20 years ago when I was doing that it was high school and college kids almost 100%, anyone older was management. I realize that times have changed and people have to work that kind of a job due to economic downturn and other reasons.

I am not saying that people who do that job are lazy, uneducated, or anything else. I do feel bad for people that have to make hard financial decisions due to not earning enough to have an income near the poverty level. However, not everyone can make 6 figures, have a new house, drive a new vehicle. The world needs CEO's, doctors, lawyers, but it also needs ditch diggers too.

If a fast food wage went up to $15 an hour, that would be more than what I started my full time job at which I needed a degree. How much sense does that make?
