Scenario 1-Making 10/hr at McDees...one day decide that enough is enough...apply for financial aid(which you will qualify for on McDees pay). Start a certificate program at the local CC. Get certified as a nursing asst, dental asst, etc. Your salary will generally increase $7k per year. You have student loans to pay off, but you are taking home more money each year, and the education climb may continue if desired and you feel satisfied knowing you have built a career.

Scenario 2-Making $10/hr at McDees....put very little effort in your daily job...your manager sees no potential in you...your raises are minimum and scarce...you become bitter watching customers drive up in nice cars.....repeat this for years....all of a sudden cant pay your smartphone bill or sat TV bill.....your kids want nike shoes....you get even more bitter and bring down other employees....you want a $5 raise for something you have not earned or deserved at the expense of others.

Scenario 1 attitude built this country.
Scenario 2 attitude is destroying this country.

And how are you going to feed your kids while you go to school with no income? It is a catch 22.

When have you ever heard of some one getting a raise at McD's? The minimum wage has not moved a penny in 4 years. I am not advocating a $15 minimum wage just some thing that helps lifts people out of poverty big biz does not care and we are paying the price. Many years ago the unions came into existence to protect the people from corporate greed maybe there time has come and gone but if there is ever a revolt in this country it going to come from the people who's backs the 1% have walk over.

actually...in some areas they pay pretty well. and pay according to your education/skills/experience.

a burger flipper isn't worth more than 7-10 bux an hour...no more than a plumbers helper is.

however...a McDonald's regional manager and a licensed plumber/journeyman both earn a good living.

Are you dense? Every company will give you internal raises. Yes Even McDonald's. I saw a couple of 10 dollar positions, shift manager, asst manager makes 29, gm makes 46.
That's each stores average gm salary. Know how many freaking McDonald's there are? A shit ton. There are 3 within a 2 mile radius of me. I would say that's a lot of 46000 salary positions and 30000 asst manger positions in any big city.

How do the numbers match up? 1 in 5000? Do you really think they came up through the ranks?

It has been said over and over. Yes entry level pay at McDonald's is 8 bucks an hour and that is low, but its an ENTRY LEVEL position. It is not designed to support a family of 3 or 4! It just isn't. Entry level positions in any company are not going to. That's just not feasible.

These people average 30 years old! Maybe they should have waited till they were 50 to have a family.
