Fastening the heat shield back on or just leave it off?

Every set of bolts I use just seems to eventually vibrate off and my heat shield starts rattling and annoys the piss out of me. Anyone have any good ideas with what to use?
I got my truck sprayed with the rust treatment this weekend and the dealership said to just take the heat shield off.. Man I touched that black goop and it is still not even close to dry after 48+ hours wtf

 

have you tried LOCTITE?

 

Yeah I have not I guess I have my reserves about using stuff that is a pain to remove. I considered JB welding it at first lol. I think I may try it as how often will I ever have to even remove the shield.

 

Seems funny to me that you would consider JB weld over LOCTITE... Just saying not judging!

 

Loctite and nylock nuts with bolts. Probably would not come off

 

Use blue locktite 242, it can be overcome with hand tools.

 

There for a reason. Dealer who says remove is a tool, have him sign a letter of liability.

 

I wouldn't do this. Loctite and nylocks don't play well together. The Loctite will soften the nylon and the nuts will loosen. (I almost lost a shock.)

Both Loctite and Nylocs aren't rated for temps above 250F. Not sure how hot the nuts get on the heat shield. You can get stainless all-metal locknuts at Fastenal. Yeah they get pretty fricken hot. Thanks for the advice I am checking out those bolts from fastenal. I was gonna use JB weld only b/c I have it on hand and am broke.

Blue loctite is only like $5...Use that. JBWeld is going to cause problems if you ever have to replace.

 

Red high-temp RTV around the nut will work for you

 

How often do you realistically have to remove the heat shield? I would try red locktite. It is rated to 500*F.
