    BTW If you don't have a state vehicle inspection then it shouldn't be a problem... My step-dad has been running non street legal headers on his jeep for the past 3 years and there has been no problem..

    You do have a point. The v6 sould be plenty fast. If it was a 4cyl auto trans with 31's now thats a totaly diff. story. All the stuff Ive done to my truck to make it some what peppy has failed.

    Why may not be legal?

    California for example frowns on ANY modified exhaust. Some smog inspection stations won't even look at the vehical, even if the mod was legal, they will look at the TRD tip and say take it elseware. As I noted, some will do this, not all. Others will smog it if it meets the standards and is a approved brand and so on. On my sons TC, he was issued a ticket for modified exhaust, came with the TRD from the dealer. He showed the issueing LEO the form noting that it meets ALL California requirements and was told to tell it to the courts. Went to court and they signed it off. Just never know till you check.

    Starting to think the OP might be trolling anyway. My .02 cents.

    From my understanding, a stock engine with any of the 'normal' supporting HP gain mods does very little real gain with our v6. This includes headers, CAI (cold air intake), exhaust, ect. However, they will give you more gains combined with a boosted setup (supercharger from TRD or URD, or some pieced together turbo setup). That's when opening up the air flow will start to see some benefit from those mods. Also getting a chip wont' do a lot for you without boost.

    The only 'cheaper' quick way to get power is NOS, which I fully do NOT recommend using. It's a great way to blow up your engine :D

    That said, I do like the intake/exhaust setup because it will change your noises (exhaust tone, intake tone ect) to make it sound a lot more badass... and usually gives you the placebo effect that you're actually going a lot faster! (even if it's lies). End of they day our v6 trucks are quick for what they are, even out run the higher HP frontiers and keeps up pretty well with most other cars.... but they're trucks, ment more for the trails than 0-60 (minus the x-runners and people that have put serious time/money into getting speed out of them).

    Getting more speed will always cost you a lot more cash than the return is probably ever going to be worth, but it's an addiction to some :D
