I was thinking the other day about how much I miss Southern food since I live out in Cali. My Grandmother used to make all kinds of stuff, like fried okra, fried catfish, meat loaf, and my favorite: roast beef, all cooked for 4 hours with carrots and potatoes with this kind of mushroom gravy made from morel mushrooms from the woods. That and deviled eggs, creamed corn, biscuits, and home made chocolate cake, mayfields ice cream, and sweet iced tea. Man I'm hungry.

    What about you all?

I tell you what's weird and depressing though. Out here I generally eat healthier by default. Then I'd go home and eat at all the fried/greasy southern restaurants, Grandmother's house, at home, etc etc. I'd be fine. But NOW when I visit and eat any of that stuff.... man oh man it does a horrible number on me in the worst kind of way. So I think if you get away from that kind of food too long, your system changes.

Mexican food. REAL Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex, not Taco Bell, not Kraft's version of it.

Haven't had it in about 7 years, since the last trip to San Diego.

edit: anybody ever seen the inside jacket of the ZZ Top Tres Hombres album? That is what Mexican food is supposed to look like.

Well the last thing my grandmother cooked for me was fried turtle, she found it crossing the road, picked it up, my grandfather killed it and we had turtle with fried okra. True Story. Yea I'm southern.
