Nice! I've got one of those...and two .750s.
The guy at the store that I bought them from told me that they are gonna quit bottling the 1.75s.

I do not get the Weller thing. I bought a bottle of green label this spring and gave half of it away. I thought it was ok for the $35 I paid at the time, but nothing special. I’d much rather drink Eagle Rare from the same distillery. Everyone seems to be caught up in hoarding it all the sudden.

Strange that is...when available (both recipes) here in Ontario, Weller SR is < half price of Eagle Rare 10. I'd still prefer the ER, but a daily driver the Weller SR is a nice taste.

I think it’s manly cause it’s pretty good and yet cheap and still kinda rare. It’s nothing amazing but when you’re drinking the bottom barrel of one of the best distilleries in America you still feel pretty good about yourself.

Also, supposedly the 107 is the same mash bill as the Ol Rip van Winkle 10yr and you can mix the 107 with the 12yr to make “poor mans Pappy” haven’t tried it myself. Anyways it’s been caught up in the pappy fever.

Exactly... Caught up in the Pappy hype. SR is decent for the price. But when liquor stores are charging much over the $17.99 msrp, it’s a hard pass for me.

Oooh... Special Reserve, gotcha! I paid $55 for the 1.75 probably above msrp but not robbery.

Weller green label is less than $20 a bottle here, I haven't found another whiskey I like as much at that price point that's for sure.

I agree with this guy’s review of Weller Special Reserve - https://modernthirst.com/2014/03/13/bourbon-review-w-l-weller/

If you like wheaters, give Old Fitzgerald (sub $20) or Larceny (sub $30) a go... Or some of the Makers releases.

And $55 for a 1.75 SR is about $20 over where that bottle should be priced... Damn mark-ups!

@HighCountryTacoma I was hoping to do the tour there early this spring. Do they happen to have a shop at the end of the tour that I could purchase some of the bourbons that I am for some reason unable to locate here in Columbus Ohio?

I'm not hoarding, I'm drinking. Weller is not available very often where I live, so when I go to my parent's place, I stock up. I like it a lot. Eagle Rare is great too, but it is available to me all the time, so that kinda makes Weller special, for me.

    I pay $22(.750) and $36(1.75) for Weller.

Eagle Rare is from the same distillery, but it is a different mash-bill. Mash bill #1 for Eagle Rare (low-rye) and the Wheated Mash bill for the Weller. I think they're pretty different. (For what it is worth, all else equal, I like Eagle Rare much better, too.)

If you are paying $35 for a 750ml, I completely understand how you would be underwhelmed. That stuff is about as rare as bottled water around here, so I don't face the inflated prices. At ~$30 for a 1.75L bottle, there is rarely a time where I don't have it in the cabinet. It is definitely sweet with a very short finish, but I think what flavor it does have is good enough to sip and it is cheap enough to let guests dump bunches of ice in it or mix with whatever they want without me worrying about it.

The fanatacism around it is kind of strange, though. Of course, I think the same about Weller 107 and Weller 12 and the high regard those are held in is even crazier!

All of the Wellers are from the same mash bill as all of the Van Winkles (except for the Family Reserve Rye) - including the Special Reserve.

The "Poor Man's Pappy" approximates the mellow nose and palate of Pappy that is missing from the 107 while bumping the proof missing from the Weller 12. It is 60% Weller Antique 107 and 40% Weller 12. Depending on who you ask, the result is supposed to be somewhere between Old Rip Van Winkle 10 and Pappy Van Winkle 15. I've blended it up and tasted alongside Old Rip Van Winkle 10. Among 3 or 4 of us, in a blind tasting, the consensus was that the ORVW10 was the better of the two, but the "Poor Man's Pappy" was damn delicious. I think it is much better than the sum of it's parts, personally.

Well damn. I had found (and ordered) a bottle of E.H. Taylor Jr from an on-line liquor store for about $10 over retail with a small shipping fee. The next day I get an email saying the order was canceled, but no explanation. I emailed and was told the store hadn't updated their inventory and they didn't actually have it. Mf'ers. I was so close!

That sucks. What state are you in? Wonder if we could set up a TW express for ya. EH Taylor is in just about every liquor store around me.
