Well, my first lottery try with Total Wine was a winner. After ranking 7-8 bottles, I had the option to purchase this WL Weller Single Barrel. I’ve never seen one of these bottles before, so I went with it. Excited to give it a try. While they’re at the store, I was looking at the selections and noticed Wolcott has a Rickhouse Reserve now, and I have enjoyed the BIB selection they make. This Rickhouse Reserve bottle is excellent! I sampled it at the store, as it was available for tastings. Big flavor profile, with cinnamon to start that turns into some cherry. 120 proof that doesn’t feel like 120.

Then, when I went to pick up my lottery pick, they had all their allocated stuff on the desk. One per customer, so….I went with Weller 107, as the other stuff they had, I already had doubles of. So excited to have a few new bottles to sip on.

Lord Jesus. Weller Single Barrel secondary valuations approach $1000. A very difficult bottle to get one’s hands on, congratulations!

Ha! Really? Sheeesh. Makes me not want to open the dang thing now! Although, that’s not what I’m into but that’s crazy! Have you ever tried it before? I have not. I wish I took a photo of where I ranked these bottles. I’m guessing I Ranked this fairly high in the options. I believe I had Old Forester Birthday Bourbon as my top choice. Then maybe this or one of the higher end Blanton’s?

But, excited to give this a try.

Bourbon is made to be enjoyed so open her up. I just told you the value to give you an idea of the scarcity and popularity. I’ve never tasted the top three Wellers (SiB, CYPB and 12) but there’s a bar in MD near a town I go to for work from time to time that serves Weller flights, specifically to give people the opportunity knowing how hard they are to find. I hope to get back there to try them.

I love the “we age a rye whiskey for three years”….in Lawrenceburg, IN…yeah no that would be MGP fellas. Quite a generous “we”. It’s completely ok to tell the public that you sourced some three year rye from a world-class producer and then finished it yourself.

Sorry, rant over. The finishing process does sound intriguing. I’ve had a bourbon finished with cherry wood and it is tasty.

What's the deal with the lottery at Total Wine? I've never been to the store, but there is one in Franklin about an hour from my place.

I feel like touring my collection tonight and maybe cracking a new one or two. So the Lil Glass is out.

Each of these pours will be about 0.5 ounces, or 1/3rd of a single, so don't PM me AA links when you see like 6 of 'em.

Starting with a classic. Maybe it's because it's been a while, but I forgot how sweet the Tater Juice is.

This was really good when I got to have a taste about a month ago at a friend’s. Came into the ABC recently…$140, just couldn’t do it. One and only time I’d ever seen it.

Spend lots of money on booze and you get into the Grand Reserve Club, which gives you a few perks - lottery availability (I don’t know how often they do a lottery - maybe quarterly?), free attendance to the various wine and liquor classes the offer, greater percentage on points for each purchase that leads to $5 and 2 free wine bags a month :)

There is one other spot close to me with decent selection, but you don’t get the benefits like TW. Although this other location does do classes, tastings and has a lottery every few months that is available to anyone who is on their email list.

Ok, there's a store near me that does something similar. I don't really spend enough to get the benefits; certainly not worth driving an hour each way to TW.

The classes offered are pretty fun. I’ve gone a few and enjoyed them, and they include tastings. TIckets are $25 a piece, but free now I think. My wife and I recently went to a Cabernet Sauvignon class, the lady that hosted was excellent. If she’s there when I’m in to buy wine, I ask her to pick out the bottles based on what we tasted.

I’d really like to go to a tequila class next. Just to get some exposure to more tequilas. They have a bourbon and a cocktail class coming up soon.
