This one needed to be gone, still wasn’t overly thrilled with it at the end.

I haven’t given High West it’s fair shake, as I’ve only had their Campfire Whiskey. I read several articles about this particular whiskey and really wanted to try it. However they over hyped it and my expectations were never met.

I have an open campfire, and like you I couldn’t enjoy it. But, I’m not particularly into scotch. Tried this as a bridge, but it was a failed experiment.

I was taking a picture for someone who asked me if I had any Pappy. This Pappy 12 comes from a happier time in the 90's when it was $40/bottle and always on the shelf at a local Denver liquor store. I have always thought about drinking the last of it and putting something else in the bottle but it just seems wrong! I was surprised to find the Larceny barrel proof after not seeing it anywhere around me (and when I went back there was no more!). The EC Private Barrel is from Tulalip Market in Marysville WA. It is a bit better than the prior two barrel proof releases, but also cost $100 (total with WA state taxes), so also more expensive. Cheers!

I am a High West fan, particularly the double rye. For the price, they have their blending down with nice bourbon corn sweetness and plenty of brown sugar, candy corn, and woodsy notes. That said, as I am also an Islay whisky person, I find the HW Campfire product unrefined with the smoke not really integrating very well into the rest of the liquor, and as you mention the price point is way off. If you are going to drink peated products, find some Laphroaig 10 for availability and price (along with being a great Islay to start with and always have) then progress to the benchmark (for many) Lagavulin 16. I have yet to have anything from either Laphroaig or Lagavulin that was not worth it. Just my opinion!
Here is a Parks and Recreation selection!

A new local store carries this so I had to try it. It's umm...... yeah.....

Smells very astringent. Straight bitter without the slightest bit of sweetness to counter it. Almost like a slight mint but lots of bitter. For the record I like bitter but this was another level. The main issue is the taste just sort of lingers in your mouth.

I'm surprised the Pappy 12 label was pretty much the same back then too. I think it's quite classy. Still a standout even at the $200 price point it's at now

    Pappy 12 — $200 — lol.

Saw a couple bottles of it at a liquor store recently for close to ten times that.
