Technically no, made from a different plant but tastes 90% the same as mezcal (and most people know mezcal but few know sotol)

you know I've been hesitant to put my new bottle of Mezcal in here thought its similar to a more smokey flavor, like an Oban. pretty good found that when sitting with a friend of mine from Mx

I’ve tried the Mi Familia as well and thought it was good! A bottle I’d buy once I get one of my few emptied. I try to keep the tequila bottles in check…..because I can’t do that with the bourbon and whiskey!!!! Hah!

They're a completely different flavor to me. Mezcal tastes like smokey tequila. Whereas Sotol tastes very minerally, like licking a wet rock.
    And I love them both!

Sotol is made from Dasylirion wheeleri, also called desert spoon.
Mezcal is just a spirit made from agave. Tequila is a type of mezcal. Except tequila has to be made from blue agave. Tequila is also made by roasting the blue agave plants in a giant brick oven, traditionally anyways (the traditionally made tequilas are night and day difference in flavor vs mass produced). Mezcal uses a wide variety of different agaves. They smoke them in a big pit. Hence the smokey flavor of mezcal.

Rare Breed pour since the wife is watching Love Is Blind LOL. Visiting the Finger Lakes for a few days and staying in this cool little A-Frame. Did some hunting this morning but not much luck. Cheers.

Yessir…got extremely lucky with good timing. I almost didn’t venture out today. And cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be nice and respectful w/the clerks. They are sick and tired of the BS the vast majority of taterville puts them through.
