I’ve successfully survived the first several hours of my kid’s birthday activities / sleepover. There are six of them. I pray for early bedtime even though there’s not a chance in hell. Meanwhile, time to treat myself to a favorite.

Some folks like it, but Rowan's Creek is the worst likker to pass my lips. Poured it right down the drain.
Hopefully, you'll like it better than I did.

It’s the new trend. Lots of men getting into whiskey critiquing and chasing the high dollar stuff. I’ve been branching out and trying more expensive stuff, but even then I really don’t go any higher than $50/ 5th. I try to keep it in the $30 range

Finishing the night off with this. I’d be curious to see what others might compare this bottle to. I don’t want to say anything specific because I am not doing side by sides or blinds, but this really is a good pour.

I've come to the conclusion that I can't enjoy mine without at least a cube. I would blame it on the proof but I can enjoy my JDSBBP and Rare Breed just fine so maybe it just isn't as good for me.

There are certain pours that I don’t enjoy nearly as much without a small piece of ice, Booker’s is one of them…so you’re not alone. For specific whiskies, a touch of ice dramatically changes the flavor for the better.

I’ve noticed this with Larceny BP, Old Ezra 7, and JD SBBS Rye for example.

I would be interested in a list of value whiskeys, those that don't break the bank but are a tasty pour for the beginner.
Does a list like that exist?
I too think paying more than $50-60 is kind of crazy, like "chasing labels, rainbows, and unicorns".

Here’s a go at it, though you can find lots of lists via a Google.

    Buffalo Trace
    Larceny
    Old Granddad 114
    Evan Williams BIB
    Wild Turkey 101
    Very Old Barton
    Benchmark — I like FP
    Old Taylor
    Bernheim wheated

Never tried it but the Noah's Mill has to be one of my top 10 favorites so I have high hopes for the Roman's Creek

Russel’s Reserve 10YR is still less than $50 though it’s shot up a few bucks over the past 6 months.

If you want to go really frugal for good value Mellow Corn, Old Tub, Evan Williams BiB can all be had for around $20.

Eagle Rare is good at $40-50, though some place charge anywhere up to $100.

Green River Wheated Bourbon is very good around $30-35.

Michter’s Sour Mash is really good, around $40-50.

Sazerac Rye is $20-30, a decent rye whiskey.

Thanks gentlemen. My preference is something with a high corn mashbill.

My buddy gave it to me a few weeks back. He found it at Total Wine, if you have those around you. It’s not one of the bottles they have half an aisle of, and I don’t know if it’s one of their Spirit Direct brands, but that’s where he found it. I don’t think I’ve seen it at the other two spots I check out, but I also can’t say I was looking for it.
