Man, I swear Taylor Barrel Proof was in there too, but it’s not. So make that Single Barrel and move it down after the Rye, maybe after the Stagg too.

Now boarding: KC Airlines flight 9-18 from Glencairn, Scotland to Jandrews' Liver. Please ensure all carry-on bags are securely stowed in the overhead compartments so you don't trip over them on the way to the bathroom.

Peanuts will not be served on this flight, but we do have beverage service.

    Notes from cruising altitude:

    - The 9 and 12 are a more forward nose, with the 15 and 18 being more subtle. 12 is the most vibrant of the bunch.
    - The 18 is noticeably smoother than everyone else, as you would expect. The extra age really mutes the alcohol. By comparison, the 9 is almost astringent.
    - The 15 has the sweetest palate and thickest mouthfeel. The 12 is very close in palate but thinner. In the 18, the sweet notes in the 15 begin to be counterbalanced by considerable oak.
    - The finish on the 18 is similar to most good double-oak bourbons I've had - I'm especially thinking of Peerless DO.
    - The 18 is the most complex of the group, so thanks Jim Beam for justifying the price tag.
    - The 12 is the best deal per dollar. At $70 a bottle, it's nipping at the heels of the $120 15 year and only a stride length or so back from the $170 18 year. And yet, it's absolutely two or so weight classes above the $45 9 year. I would absolutely validate anyone who says they'd rather have two bottles of 12 than either of the more aged releases.

I'll check in again after landing.

    Conclusions:

My personal ranking of enjoyment, ignoring cost:

    15 > 18 > 12 > 9

    Value ranking considering cost:

    12 > 9 > 15 > 18

The bottom line for me is that there is no such thing as bad Knob Creek. Subjective preferences and budgetary considerations are what they are, but all of these are excellent in their categories and price brackets.

I’ve just recently discovered George Dickel. I’m enjoying it. Not likely going to see the 15 year in my parts anytime soon.
