Ha! Yes….I’d have to agree with that! And I’ve been holding back a bit, trying to keep it somewhat in control because I’ve ran out of room in the cabinet!

Whiskey stones and everything like them, for so many reasons, are a gimmick. I could expound but I feel like they aren’t even worth my time.

    i mean, whats the gimmick?

i only want them to cool without watering down.

Is there something that they advertise besides that?

For one thing the most common material for whiskey stones (soapstone) is really poor at cooling liquid, compared to ice.

I can’t even imagine a metal ball or balls clinking around in my glass and maybe hitting my teeth.

You’re better off with a single cube to cool off your bourbon when you want it. Typically a little water only enhances the flavor.

Besides the colder the whiskey is, the harder it is to taste. Science.

After the blind tasting (wife poured for me), they were all good! Of the four, I’m only familiar with EHT. Old Fitzgerald I had last weekend for the first time, and only a small tasting of it. HH and 1792 I have yet to try, so this was more of a tasting to see what I picked up on the nose, palate and finish as well as which one I enjoyed the most.

For me, as I mentioned, they were all good. Unfortunately all four bottles are hard to come by, so I’ll nurse these over time!

The most enjoyable bottle for me, was 1792 (about $45). I thought the nose carried over very well to the palate and had a great finish. Picked up vanilla notes, with some cherry as well.

EHT ($45) was a close second, a little softer on the nose but a well-rounded flavor that I enjoyed.

Old Fitz 10yr ($160) was third - was very light on the nose, but offered some cinnamon on the palate to me, as well as a few spices.

And rounding it out, Heaven Hill ($50) - this one confused me a bit - had a wonderful nose but that didn’t carry over to the palate. The palate was spicy compared to the sweetness I got on the nose. The flavor was nice, and something I will enjoy over time.

But for now - I sit and watch MI:6 - Dead Reckoning and sip on a pour of the winner for the night - 1792 BiB!

I love HH 7 but have noticed it’s one of those bourbons that isn’t at its best neat. If that’s the way you tried it, give it a chance with a small piece of ice and it changes the flavor dramatically.

All were neat, so I will do that next go round. You suggested this a while back as well, and it completely changed the profile of a bottle for the good! Thanks for the reminder!

I've used the stones and the stainless cubes, but didn't like the results from either. I prefer the Nest Whiskey Chiller https://haveitneat.com/ or the clear ice ball maker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L7PJK9M

I've done some testing with a particle tester and the ice ball maker. The clear ice comes out of the freezer nearly a pure as distilled water. I tested the water going in at over 200 ppm and after letting the ice ball melt in a glass, it tested at only 3 ppm.

I found the pics of my test on my telegram chat.
Ice ball test. Start to finish 304ppm hot water down to 003ppm after freezing to a clear ice ball.

@jandrews and @Hook78 I figured out why I can never find any of the rarer bottles in my county.

Today I attended the Cabarrus County ABC annual bourbon raffle, open to county residents only. The parking lot had around 500 people with raffle tickets. Apparently they save all their allocations through the year for this day. Good and bad I guess. Good because now I can stop driving around from store to store all year wasting gas. Bad because I only get one shot at anything really rare in this county.

Looking in the front door I saw Pappy’s, Old Fitzgerald, every Weller they make including the CYPB, about 30 bottles of Bookers, Blade & Bow 22YR EC 18YR, some Michter’s rarities, 4RSBBP…you name it. Probably a pallet of regular old Blanton’s. Probably a pallet of Eagle Rare store picks.

Luck was not on my side today, by the time my number was called nothing was left that I really wanted. Got this one.

Probably the most fair way to do it honestly. A couple counties north of me they do it the same way. Just sucks when you’re on the short end of the stick.

I had a pour of Blood Oath 8 once and it was fantastic, so you didn’t make out terribly. It’s hard to find at retail, even if retail is still expensive.
