a client gave them to me as a gift.

we had no idea that we both were into bourbon and what not until a few weeks ago we were car pooling to an event when he said: mind if we make a pit stop? -- he was picking up a stagg at a liquor shop where he had an established friendship with the owner.

    that sparked the conversation.

two weeks later i receive a package from him and to my surprise these two guys were in it.

It's fantastic from start to finish. WT101 profile, but the extra age really shows (standard shelfer 101 is 6 to 8 years old). Very little discernable ethanol burn at all. Thicker mouthfeel than typical 101.

If you're a Turkey Homer like me, this stuff along with RR SiBs and Master's Keep releases is the Holy Grail.

That's a tough one. As awesome as those bottles are, not worth putting your job in jeopardy if it were to come out. MSRP on those bottles isn't extravagant (little over $100) so might be OK, depending on your company's gift policy.

I had to turn down a couple bottles a customer offered me, luckily they were ones I could find on my own with a little effort and luck.

Maybe if your client were to share pours of those with you during a meeting it could be more acceptable

Had dinner at a restaurant last night. Usually I like to check over the drink menu to see if there is anything unique I haven't had or haven't had in a while. Not last night. I wasn't in the mood for the dance where you ask for something, she goes to check and see if they have it, they don't, you pick again, so on and so forth. Like playing Battle Ship with your whisky or tequila selections. E-17. MISS!

She came walking up to the table, "Bulliet on the rocks." I know it's available and I know I can afford it. Some places around here the same glass of whisky can range $20 from one watering hole to the next. Ordered a tequila one time that was usually around $18 to $24 a glass and the bill said $68. Like I said, not in the mood for games last night. Whisky, Glass, Rocks, Do It.

She brings it out, we have our meal, all's well. Then I get the bill and casually glance over it. We were with friends and I just wanted to make sure the appetizers all showed up in one place.

There was a charge on the bill that read like this:
    Bulliet........................................$8.00
    Drink Prep (Rocks).....$2.50

Now let's be completely honest, I would have paid $10, $12, maybe even $14 for that glass and not thought anything of it. And the grand total (including prep) was $10.50. BUT!! None of the other drinks at the table had a prep fee. Some were cocktails - drinks that required elaborate mixing and shaking and straining. I didn't even get a nice ice ball or a pure clear ice rock cube. This was literally ice out of the machine with Bulliet poured on top. Not even a garnish or cherry. Takes the same effort to make my drink as it did to make the water glasses on the table. Takes the same effort to make a glass of Coke or Sprite or Mug Root Beer. None of those get charged $2.50 for roughly 45 seconds of work.

Why do some bars and restaurants feel the need to get cheap and break that out as a fee? How do they think they are driving customer satisfaction? Just charge me $11.00 and call it good.

You can add and itemize whatever bs “fee” you want on the bill. If it is still cheaper than I expected or am willing to pay, I don’t care, here’s my card.

It’s also worth considering that different bars have different “standard” pours. Some bars use 1.5oz for a “neat” pour and 2oz for a pour on the rocks. So you’re not paying for ice, you’re paying for a little more liquor. A quick google search and reading a few articles suggest this is pretty standard practice.

Your question could likely be very easily answered by the restaurant/bar you visited.

Another vote for Angel's Envy here. I'm not a big fan of scotch, but Monkey Shoulder with a little water was insanely smooth.
