Me too! I wouldn’t be surprised if the empty decanter could fetch a grand.

I picked up this 4 Roses single barrel at Total Wine today. I prefer the small batch, but talking to one of the guys there and he tells me this one has a recipe made for TW and it's pretty popular. He went to show me and sure enough, the shelf is empty. I dig around in the back, behind the last bottle in the adjacent row, find one bottle.

So I learned something new today about 4 Roses. If you look at this website it will explain the codes that are on the bottles (mine was OBSV); essentially they use two mash bills and 5 proprietary yeast strains. The combinations of the two make up the 10 distinctive recipes.

I bought it at the same time as a buddy in the whiskey group and we drank his first .

I've kept this one for a high proof night that we haven't had, yet.

To answer your question, though, it is good. It's the higher rye mashbill, so a little higher on spice, but a less spicy recipe overall (V vs K, for instance). Every small batch I've had been very creamy. This replaces a bit of that cream with a touch of almost a pine spice.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I'll revisit mine soon.

I haven't tried all that many of the top shelf Bourbons. But out of what I have tried. It's my favorite after the Booker's. I bought 2 of each as they are sometime hard to find.

Got crazy last night and popped open the Stagg Jr. Batch 11. WOW, that's a punch in the face! A tasty punch, but a punch nonetheless.

Gonna have to keep my eye out for a backup bottle I think.:D

I revisited my bottle of Willett pot still yesterday after letting it breathe, etc. after some time away from it..

It still tastes like dill pickle... /sigh :(

Never again. Now how to get rid of the remaining 1.5L :annoyed:

Friend of mines dad likes to eat pickles while he drinks whiskey/bourbon. This bottle has his name written all over it.

I've never had Harmony in a bar setting. Keep that spot in your rotation. Very cool that they had it available. Any other good/unique stuff on the menu?

I have a bottle of batch 10, but I've had it already. Heard good things about batch 11. I might have to try to swap for one. Stagg Jr., on first pour right after opening, is insanely hot! Damnit, if I don't love the kick, though!

I've yet to have a whiskey that I couldn't at least mix with some coke and call it a day.

Well, except for Ranger Creek Rimfire. That I just give to people I want to mess with .

It definitely falls in the mixer category.

I like to give people Jim Beans signature 12 year... man that stuff is buttery/oily. No bueno. Haha

The Mitcher's? I's pretty good. That's my 2nd bottle. I'd put it in about the same level as Eagle Rare or Evan Williams Single Barrel.
    But that's just my opinion.

Definitely not a leisurely drink. There's no letting this just hang out in the background, it wants all the attention! Anxious to see how it changes now that it's open.

Just for laughs, after I finished my little pour of Stagg Jr., I took a swig of some Jameson and couldn't even taste it.
