Favorite Whiskey?

I've been really lucky lately. This never happens.

 

Nice, that's such a good pour. Just finished off my 2022 and hopefully I can get another one to replace it eventually.

 

In my experience county seat stores in podunk towns are the best bet. They often have dusties laying around.

 

I used to go to asheville every year with the wife until we had too many kids.....NC isn't gonna do you any good hunting....best spot I found for good pours was The Crow and Quill. its a speak easy in town, theres no sign or anything and the windows are papered over like its under construction but they drinks and wiskey list was amazing. havent been in a couple years, assuming its still there

 

On the other hand, Asheville, Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk are all fucking awesome places for craft beer. So I’d focus on that instead.

I am so consistently disappointed in the whiskey selection at the bases near me, and I have three.

 

For some reason our Shoppette and Class 6 have random good bottles. I've found Booker's, Weller 107, Ole St. Nick ect.

 

Back on that WW tonight. I actually think I like it better the second time around. I get a lot less of that anise licorice I was tasting last time.

I tried to get Eglin class six to order a Weller 107 and they told me it was unavailable. One of these days I’ll drive up Ft Campbell and see if they are any better.

 

best to bring your own bourbon with you just in case. But more importantly a fly rod or three. Boone is a nice area.

 

Military bases will not / cannot order allocated for anyone. Imagine if they did/ could what a shitshow, every swinging dick in there. That’s why it’s called allocated. They get most of their stuff through the state they’re in.

That's what I have done every other time I've been up there. Lost Province in Boone and Burial in Asheville and my faves. I'll just take a nice bottle of bourbon or find one on the way.

Man oh man, all I can find from Still Austin around these parts are the base level offerings, cask strength, yes!!!!

 

If you get a chance while in Asheville, Bears Smokehouse BBQ is damned good. If you feel a bit fancy, I really like to get a fine bourbon, and hang out on the deck @ the Omni hotel. That place is pure history and class. The bourbon selection is amazing in the steakhouse.

 

Buffalo Trace is allocated at Eglin, last time I ordered it there it took 18 months to get it, and the price wasn’t any better than downtown.

 

AAFES owes me a discount, lol!

 

Same! Dssolvr is my 2nd favorite. Annoying they are on opposite sides of town, luckily our hotel this visit was right in the middle on Patton.
