Yeah, marketing in the Rye space has driven the prices of some ryes through the roof. For the most part anything that claims 95 percent rye is all the same juice from the same distillery. It's just aged, labeled and marketed different. Lots of marketing drives the price up, very little marketing, like the Dickel, drives the price down. You have to be careful or it's really easy to overpay for some decent but greatly overpriced whisky.

MGP distillery. I dont mean to talk down brands that use MGP. Aging makes a big difference in how a distilled spirit turns out. Lots of good stuff comes from MGP, some brands just do everything in their power to hide it. You can go right to the MGP web page and see exactly what their standard mash bills are. When you do you will see a 95 rye displayed.

I lucked out and got a few bottles of the Col E.H Taylor once. When I opened it and tried it (right away) I absolutely did not like it. So much so that I briefly thought about taking the unopened bottle back for a refund. Luckily I came to my senses and kept it, then left the opened bottle alone for a few weeks. When I came back to it it was a totally different experience. So much better. What I'm saying is, if you don't like it at first let it sit a bit then try again.

If anyone passes through SDF, be sure to get there early and stop at B&B Book & Bourbon, it’s before TSA.

Rick, the bartender at B&B is my new best friend. If full, that’s about $11k

I stopped by Total Wine today to pick up a bottle of Knob Creek 120 Single Barrel Reserve, but instead walked out with Glendronach 12. Both were on my wish list but I need to increase my Scotch inventory to get equilibrium with my bourbon.

I also saw these two special Knob Creek bottles and was sorely tempted, but I stuck to my guns with the Scotch. Has anyone tried any of these?
