Nothing is better after a hard day than a glass of Rich and Rare whiskey served neat in a kitchen glass with hard water stains on it. You know it's good when they only use natural coloring to make it look like whiskey and you can get a gallon for under $20 out the door.

True, but the GF is going to the UK in 10 days... I wonder if I should have her keep an eye out while she's over there....
I'd imagine it'd have to be, otherwise the whisky snobs that judge that sort of contest would never have made that decision

Let the Clyde May's air for a couple of weeks. I bought a bottle 2-3 weeks ago and I personally was disappointed when I opened it that evening.
I tasted it again last night and the night before and it's a totally different Whiskey. Really good. I had the same thing happen with Russell's Single Barrel.
On the Henry McKenna. $29 I saw on sale yesterday. I had a full bottle but grabbed another one anyways.

I wasn't too terribly impressed at first with my bottle either. Now that its been open for about two months I'm really enjoying it.

Question for everybody: Just wondering in general, how easy has it been to find Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for those that were looking for it? I've only seen it once, and it was $95. After that, it's been a ghost. I know it's a quarterly release, just seeing if it's a local thing that its scarce.

Locally I never see it. But a store 2 counties to the South has had it every time I've been by there. At least 8-12 bottles on the shelf.

I am headed to Louisville KY next Friday for one of my daughters volleyball tournaments. Going to take a slight detour on the way, check out Buffalo Trace and do their tour with the family. While there, I plan on picking up some Eagle Rare and Blanton’s which I am having trouble finding in Columbus OH. Last year did the Angle’s Envy tour. Not a bad tour and the girls had fun.

Planning on stopping at a Total Wine to see if they have any of their special store barrel picks and other Bourbons that I am having trouble finding at home. Found a Knob Creek store barrel pick last year that was amazing, wished I had picked up a few bottles instead of just one.

I will report back with what I end up finding.

Aldi had a bottle win last year.

    https://www.thisisinsider.com/cheap-aldi-whisky-named-among-best-in-the-world-2018-6

Of course, there is some criticism over just how much weight the awards and accolades should carry:

    https://manofmany.com/lifestyle/drinks/no-aldi-whisky-is-not-the-best-in-the-world

Regardless of how good it actually is or isn't, my curiosity is piqued and I'd love to try some!

I'm headed to Denmark in May. We make a trip to Germany while we're over there to pick up beer, wine, soda, etc. due to lower taxes. When you're shopping to throw a big party, the math works way in your favor. When we make that trip, I'm hoping to stop in a Lidl store and pick up a bottle. See what the fuss is about!

A buddy of mine was up there recently. Between him and all of us in the whiskey club, he brought back something like 60 bottles of whiskey.

Store picks would be a great thing to look for. Last year, my buddy brought me back a bottle of Old Tub. It was a small bottle (375ml?) and it is a bottle-in-bond bourbon that you can apparently only get at the Jim Beam facility or a couple of surrounding stores. It was a pretty damn tasty bourbon and only like $15 or so! Maybe take a peek at that?

Can't wait to see what all you find. Happy hunting!

Yesterday, I bought some Henry McKenna Sour Mash Bourbon to keep on hand for the mixers. I'll have to say, I think it's the best $13(.750) bourbon out there...at least of the bottom-shelfers that I've had.

Thanks! I've been a bit addicted to Smith and Cross lately, I love the funk going on, as well as the depth of flavor. Delicious riff on a Negroni: 1.5oz Smith and Cross, 1oz Gran Classico (I much prefer this to Campari), 1oz Carpano Antica Formula vermouth.

Take a look at the preview. The book has a great section on different types of base spirits, modifiers, liqueurs etc. and examples of bottles/brands that they recommend. Chapter on building your bar, of course cocktail recipes broken down by classics, gin shaken, gin stirred whiskey shaken, etc, then recipes on syrups, infusions etc.

For the price, I think Cazul is excellent; smooth and flavorful. I also use it in margaritas (tequila, Cointreau, lime, agave).

If you want something that's not half bad and under $10 then try Benchmark Old No8. by Buffalo Trace.
It's "supposedly" from the left over barrels of Buffalo Trace and Blanton's. It is watered down to 80 proof. About $9.75 for 750ml in my neck of the woods.
