This is pretty funny. I know they aren't calling it a bourbon (probably fails the test somewhere else along the line), but I've always explained what makes a bourbon by saying that you could pour the distillate in a barrel with an open spigot and call it bourbon, so long as the barrel has never been filled before and and all other requirements are met. I didn't think anyone would actually "age" a whiskey for that short a time. That stuff has to be clear as vodka and twice as gut-punching.

I have had a bourbon that was aged a whopping 30 days! I'll see if I happen to still have the bottle. It is super, super light (as you'd imagine), but still darker than I would have expected. Maybe the color of the whiskey left over after finishing a pour on the rocks? I would guess it'd have still been clear.

At any rate, while aging has diminishing returns, the 2 year minimum for "straight bourbon" does wonders. This stuff was incredibly harsh.

Only thing I have close to that idea is a bottle of Compass Box Asyla. $50 or so for a bottle in its heyday and a 'good' scotch from one of my favorite companies. They announced it was going discontinued, so I grabbed a bottle when I cam across it. It'll get consumed at some point. Not for any special occasion, because I don't expect it to ever be that coveted or anything, but it'll be a fun trip down memory lane long after I've forgotten they used to make the stuff.

Tickets booked! I'm headed to the Bourbon Trail in early April.

It'll be my dad, cousin, uncle, and possibly one of my dad's cousins. They all enjoy whiskey, but are relying on me to set up the tour schedule.

We'll be staying very close to downtown Louisville and there are some great distilleries/experiences on the north side - Heaven Hill, Michter's, Angel's Envy, Old Forester, Brown-Forman, Evan Williams, Peerless....

Buffalo Trace is one I'd like to go to, but it is an hour drive east and there isn't a dense population of distilleries out that way. Lots of great labels, there, so we may have to consider anyways.

Lots to consider and look over. Hoping to have our tours booked up by the end of the weekend. Who all has been and can offer some insight to a Bourbon Trail rookie? I'm not terribly concerned with hitting all of the major players. One or two would be great, but I'm thinking the smaller ones might have more interesting and intimate tours, but I might be talking out of my hind end.

I looked in to the Jim Beam American Stillhouse (mainly because of Booker's :D), but the premier Booker's experience isn't offered that weekend. I'll plan a trip up there some time to do it. $225 and you get a small tour of the Booker's rackhouses with Fred Noe, then sit down to a BBQ dinner with him afterwards and leave with a signed commemorative bottle. Next time.

I’ve got a bottle of the rye. Also very good. Adds a little rye spice to it.

    That sounds super fun!

I have a relative who lives just across the river from Louisville on the IN side. Let me know what you like so I can plan my trip! :D
