My first with the GTS, I did not think I'd like at, thought it would be too hot. Nope, this is smooth and going on my top five

Pretty good afternoon! Each of the three stores I visited had something good for me... with the absolute steal of the day being the 200th anniversary 2016 Lagavulin 12. It's going for 50 bucks more online and most online vendors don't ship to Texas anyway.

Also found lots of old batch A'bunahds hanging out collecting dust

Binny's is pretty notable for their store picks. Their Weller Antique and Four Roses (I think?) barrel selections have a bit of a following.

I got a bottle of Proper 12 today. Hell, it's St. Paddy's day coming up and I haven't bought in to the hype, yet.

All great pickups! Wish I could walk in to a store and snag a ECBP like that!

I've been looking around like crazy for them. I know where there's one more C918 priced a little high at 70 bucks after tax. Want me to snag it?

My local shop tells me they've been waiting since Nov. to get some in. Supposedly they're still on their way.

What I normally have on the cheap: Crown Royal, Larceny, Knob Creek, Bulleit, Glenlivet 12, & Tullamore Dew (I am not big on Irish but Tulla is so smooth!)

    Savoring: Balvene Double Wood

I know some of these are Scotch.

Thanks for the offer, but not at the moment. I have a buddy who shops for that stuff religiously. I'll see if he comes across one soon (he usually does). I've been trying to empty out a little bit, lately, believe it or not .

10-4, same here. I've been killing lots of low bottles and trying to replace them with fewer but favored whiskies.

I might have to pick up something Irish on the way home...
Bushmills has a Red that is rumored among my family members to be pretty good for a $20 bottle.

I think I'm going to start focusing more on scotches for a little while. Work my way through the Booker's and a handful of other good bourbons I have when that mood strikes me, but otherwise rekindle my scotch exploration.

Scotch is my first love, but barrel proof bourbons are hard to beat. I've never been a big bourbon guy so I tried making 2019 the year I finally dig in deep.

I've settled down in my Scotch exploration for the most part, but if I see cask strength Islays out there I'm going to buy them. I can't get enough of them! I wish I could find Laphroaig 10yo CS out here, but then again maybe it's a good thing I can't find any.

If I had to pick one specific type of whiskey, my favorite is barrel proof bourbons without a doubt. That said, I have WAY more fun exploring scotch and all of the different expressions, styles, experiments, profiles, etc. It is a much more diverse journey than bourbon - by a long shot. The drawback is, I can walk in to any liquor store and budget myself to $30-50 and walk out with one (maybe two!) really solid bottles of bourbon. That is a taller task when it comes to scotch. Much more of a "you get what you pay for" type of whisky. If nothing else, it'll help me reduce the stash through attrition.

You're right about that. I feel like American whiskies have a lot of potential to blow us away in the coming years. Hopefully that allows the scotch market to level off at a friendlier price point. I love the diversity of flavors and complexity across all whiskey types, but that same diversity is making it more and more difficult to nail down an absolute favorite. I say, drink all the whiskies!

I'm no scotch expert by any means, but in my travels I've found the following to be nice without breaking the bank.

    Balvenie double wood
    Highland Park 12
    Oban 14
