For years I've had this thing in my head where I'd get song lyrics put on stuff that would be visible or tactile when I have friends and family over to spend time together. Something to discuss, comment on, start singing along to, whatever. In my head, it was lyrics that weren't from the chorus and didn't contain the song title in them. Something more thought provoking, to me, about "Some say life will beat you down. Break your heart, steal your crown." than "Learning to fly, but I ain't got wings." when the song that it came from doesn't immediately jump out at you.

Well, originally, it was going to be lyrics from all sorts of songs. Different artists, some funny lines, some serious, etc. When Tom Petty passed on, my music listening has been 90% his stuff. He's always been my favorite, but the last year and a half have been almost ALL Petty. I sent some Tom Petty lyrics over to @Kanyon71 to put on Glencairns. Going to have a set of Tom Petty related whiskey glasses done. When the family or crew is over and we imbibe, it'll be cool to have glasses customized with that on them. Might sound a little cheesy and all, but I'm pretty excited about it :D.

To be honest man it's a cool idea I've been thinking about stealing for myself. Throughout most of my years Van Halen in all incarnations has been my top band. I've been thinking about doing the same on glasses that I will use for Tequila (not shot glasses). I can remember many important moments in my life (good and bad) and a VH song that was important to me and probably playing.

Excellent! Hopefully she gets one! If so, keep me posted on the auction please!

Very cool idea! I remember your Tom Petty BBQ playlist post.

I'm not shifting the discussion to the stuff behind it, but foster care has been in the news a bit more with some of the legislative developments around the country. It has kind of reminded me of the important and underappreciated work that is done by folks in the foster care system. Your sister-in-law supporting those efforts for 10 years is a mighty noble thing. Tip of the cap to her and I wish her continued success in what she is doing. Very inspiring to hear.

My friend I have mad respect for all those in positions like this and in the public help system in general, teachers, cops, fireman. My wife is a teacher and I can tell you it's a thankless low paying job that everyone thinks is so cush and you get all this time off in the summer. My wife works countless hours beyond the normal school hours, she doesn't make much and we have spent a LOT of money out of our pockets on her classes and the school as a whole supplying things they need, paying for parties and so on. She works in low income school districts and her and I are saps for making sure these kids aren't doing without. My best friend for as long as I can remember and the guy I do this laser stuff with is a fire fighter and every day he goes in to work could easily be his last, he does it because of the kind of person he is, he used to have a cush desk job as a designer but kept hearing the calling to be a FF/EM Tech. Tip of the hat to all of you out there that do all these types of work.

She would be delighted to hear that. Her organization raises funds to provide experiences and extra-curriculars that children in state custody would otherwise not be afforded. Music, martial arts lessons, summer camps, etc. it’s very admirable. As someone who spent 7 years working in juvenile corrections, I whole-heatedly support her efforts to “normalize” these kids.

    Sorry to stray off topic

Cool looking glass! I like the nice bold lines on it. Now it just needs a little whiskey in it ;).
