Lincoln, if you make it that way, had a bunch of on the shelf items I haven't seen here. Some BP Elijah Craig, Knob Creek Variants. Nothing super rare or hard to come by, but a good selection.

Well I feel like I scored today. Stopped at the store today to get my dog his food and the alcohol section is right there so I always check and they had these 4 calling my name.

Those have been hiding behind the Total Wine counter, when they have them, for months now. I got a bottle a ways back but haven't cracked it open yet. How do you like it? They started hiding Eagle Rare as well. One guy said something about shortages, distillery issue, something something I don't remember. Going to have to grab a bottle or two of that when I can.

Well I have been looking for it for a few months now on a recommendation from a buddy. My total wines I have been checking haven’t had anything special behind the counter.
I just tried it and it’s fantastic. Very tasty and smooth and for $32 you can’t go wrong.

hey all, anyone up to help me with a recommendation? for a good smooth rich bourbon.

normally my gotos are Talisker 10, Old Pulteney, Maker's, and Bunnahabain. Maker's is the only bourbon we normally have at home, since i'm liking the sea spray thing in my singles.

i see these awesome reviews of those limited run bourbons from the east coast that you gotta know about or you'll miss 'em. and they're usually overpriced massively if you can even find a bottle. so, i see mentions of Pappy, etc, but i'm not gonna try for that right now, obviously.

any recommendation for something i can buy locally at Specs or Total Wine for say, under $120 or so that will bring me a reason to love bourbon?

I'm a scotch guy first and foremost, and Talisker 10 was my first love!

120 price range for a good bourbon can buy most everything at retail. I don't think you'll have to spend that much to find something that you can fall in love with. If you already enjoy Makers you should look into Makers Private Select or Makers 46 or the new 101 or Makers CS.

Outside of Makers I'd recommend Knob Creek and the Old Forester whiskey row series, start with 1910 and try the 1920 only if you like higher proof... it's not typically "smooth" as it has some decent barrel bite, but the flavor is thick and expansive, even on ice to smooth it out.

If you're having trouble with bourbons feeling a bit harsh for their proof, I'd grab an Evan Williams BIB (since it's cheap and tasty) to get you used to 50% abv. If you don't like it, then no worries it was cheap, but it's far from rot gut stuff.

If you like high proof then skip all of that crap and go straight for Booker's. If you see 2019 batches skip 2019-01 and go for 02 and 03.

In any event, let us know what you come across and what you think!

I love high proof Wild Turkey, so I'm a fan of all the RR single barrels. They have a great balance of spice to make the sweet flavors more interesting.

thanks! yes i remembering you mentioning Talisker 10... even since then it still grows on me. i've tried a number since and it's still the one. that's pretty easy for me now since i don't like it smoky.

i'm not averse to the bite or harshness. i keep around the Old Pulteney for a little single malt bite and like it. but i want good rich and somewhat sweet body underneath it.

so, regarding Booker's... is this something you can go find at a big seller, or does that require a bit of planning to get one?

Bookers should be available almost everywhere, but different regions may have different stock. For instance, all of my mom and pop shops have bookers all the time, but total wine and specs don't.

For an easy drinking sweet bourbon Michters is also a winner and is widely available. If you can find their American Whiskey it's a definite winner that you'll enjoy.

Y'all can tell it's Friday when I'm able to post a lot

Lost another one today... this pick was decent. Probably won't buy another 1792 small batch and just stick to the full proofs like @Gingerbeard Man
