It's a pretty solid batch. I had another pour Saturday as well.

I finished my Teresa's Batch, so I'm short one of the 2019s, now. I need to get another bottle, plus the 2019-04 when it releases, then have the crew over for a flight of the 2019 releases, like we did with the 2018s.

Shiny Barrel (2019-02) is a really solid pour and I've heard promising things about Country Ham (2019-03) as well, so I'm pretty optimistic!

The man, the myth, the legend... Bryan aka @bvbull200 aka owner/operator of Pitfaced BBQ hooked me up with a sample of Westland Peat Week along with hunting an Ardbeg Supernova for me. I asked him for some of his BBQ goodies as well, and as always it's good to meet a fellow enthusiast. You rock man! Next time I'm in NRH drinks are on me.

On to the Peat Week... I have never had a Westland before, but I have a feeling I'm about to start looking for their bottles out here. This one reminds me of a Caol Ila on the nose, but man the grains really shine through on the pallet. I really dig this one! I really believe that American single malts have a big and bright future.

I have not had a chance to try the 12 year. Sweet wheat was decent but not to the point where I ever bought a second bottle.

Love the 1792 but never been able to find the FP. I do however have a friend that is looking to hook me up with a bottle or 3.

I've had the small batch and have the BiB on hand but that's it. I've seen the FP everywhere here including handles but never snagged one even at the recommendation of @Gingerbeard Man. I'll be near them tomorrow though so I'll pop in and see.

It was great meeting up with you and putting a face to the name! I appreciate you picking up the BBQ rub while you were at it ;). I look forward to your next journey up this way. I'd gladly take you up on the offer for a drink ;).

I really dig that Peat Week. It doesn't distribute in Texas (at least not so far) and only comes out once a year, but it is worth trying to acquire. I think there were less than 1,100 bottles of that 5th edition. For some reason, one ended up on a shelf at a store in Dallas and a buddy happened to be by there sending pictures of their selection. I grabbed it immediately.

It is a light peat, but still a notable part of the palate. I picked up a little green apple in it, too. I certainly hope to be able to get the 6th edition when it releases.

As to Westland as a whole, I'd definitely explore their line-up. It is perhaps the only American Single Malt that I've had that has the elegance and balance of many Scotches that inspired it. They have another special edition that they release annually called the Garryana (I've posted something about it in here before) that should be slightly more available. It is a no-brainer to pick up if you see it. I don't *love* all of the Garryana editions, but the story and methodology behind it is pretty great and it is really unique tasting. To my knowledge, there is no other whiskey aged in Garryana oak barrels due to the extremely limited availability of the tree. It is a protected species growing only in certain regions (including the pacific northwest) and Westland can only harvest trees that have fallen naturally, so they never know how much wood, if any, will be useful for their cooperage. It imparts a rich, reddish color and has almost a cherry-like flavor profile.

If you’re ever DFW give me a shout. I guess I can offer a few samples out to this group soon. I need to order sample bottles.

I’m picking up 5 bottles of FP in the next week. Grabbed one for member...

I really need to attempt scotch again soon. Just never find many I care for.
