I wound up liking the 8.1 more than the 7.1 and 6.1, and I preferred 8.3 over 6.3 by a hair. It came down to ABV preferences in the end, with the higher proof bottles packing more intensity and variety of flavors. All editions are fantastic and extremely interesting when stacked against each other. Only two of the bottles had been opened for several months and the other three I had just opened, so I'll have to revisit them again sometime in the future to see if the 8.3 and 8.1 hold their top spots for me.

Good to know! Gin barrel finishing sounds like it'd really compliment a rye whiskey. That's just brilliant!

Some years back I tried a barrel aged gin at a little Colorado distillery and I was blown away.

I can't figure out the deal with the prices at the liquor store down the road. Stopped in and the Elmer T. Lee they had one bottle of for $100 a couple weeks ago they now have 2 bottles of but it's priced $235. On the other side the Blanton's went from $150 to $110.

I have a hard time justifying more than around $100/bottle but I might spring for the Blanton's as much as people seem to like it.

I'm pretty sure the Elmer they have is just the normal bottle, I just don't get how they more than double the price in a couple weeks. I've never seen Blanton's around here before, that's the biggest temptation

You can get one shipped on secondary for less than that.

It is good, but kind of, I don't know, plain? Tasty as it is, it is very light and offers little complexity (at least to me).

I understand the appeal at ~$60 and the bottle is cool as hell, though.

Well in that case maybe I will just buy a bottle of Michter's for ~$50 less and be happy, haha.

I’m definitely a Wild Turkey fan. Right up the road from me about 10 minutes. Buy local! :)

Rare Breed is pretty good for a rather inexpensive, consistent, readily available, barrel proof pour.
