    might I recommend a 90* turn? Or 270* if that's your jam :D

But which did you go with? Still haven't opened my Basil yet... Others are all good in my book too.

Could be. I actually just prefer the small batch over the BiB, personally. I've given up completely on looking for the full proof; I know I'm not finding any of those until the 'craze' wears off in a year or three.

I see it fairly often in my area. Even a couple store picks. Shoot me a pm if you want me to snag one. @Noelie84

You like peaty stuff, so we may have similar palates.

You're not missing out on a whole lot. The hype around current FP bottles is mostly unjustified for my taste.

But, if you really would like some, maybe shoot somebody on here a message. You know, somebody that could find a way to get you a bottle. Wink wink nudge nudge....

It's <45 bucks after taxes over here and there's plenty of it right now.

Meh, it's not urgent that I try it, by any means. Honestly lately when I've been in the mood for something other than scotch it's mostly been a Rye. But, I had a couple of friends over last night to watch that pathetic excuse for a game and they're both pretty much 'bourbon-only' types. So I stopped at the booze store on my way home to get something I knew they'd enjoy.

Can your stores not get a bottle or barrel? They still sit on the shelf in Dallas. They are moving a little bit more but they are full tater craze.

The spot on the shelf that they usually occupy has been empty every time I've stopped in during the last month. Kind of the same as the Eagle Rare for a while; every time it'd come into stock they'd disappear by the time I get out of work

I've been trying to step my rye game up recently. What are your current favorites?

Whistlepig and Bulleit are generally my favorite straight-sippers, but CC and Jim Beam rye are usually my go-to mixers for something like an Old-Fashioned or a Manhattan. Of course, if I walk into the store and they've got something I've never tried before, I'll almost always give it a go. Like that 12YO CC that I posted the other night; I'd never seen it before but for $24 I'll be sure to keep a bottle on hand going forward :notsure:

Nice, I'll keep an eye out for that 12YO CC as well. So far I've tried Russell Reserve 6yr rye, which was okay but eventually got better after it was 4/5ths gone. I have a Total Wine Knob Creek single barrel rye that's pretty decent and a WP 10 year local pick that is okay, but a bit underwhelming at 70 bucks. The High West Double Rye is pretty tasty for 30ish bucks, and that's about the extent of my Rye experience save for a tasting I did where there was a Willet 6 year rye which was fantastic. Wish I could find some of those to keep on hand.

That's crazy to me that you can't find FP. It's absolutely all over the place down here. Seems like every store has their own pick, too.

Look for the High West Double Ryes that are finished in other barrels. The gin barrel finished one is my favorite, but the scotch barrel finished one is really good, too.

Otherwise Willett Family Estate 3 Year Rye is a great bottle for the money (~$30).

That Russel Reserve sounds like it'd be a prime candidate for a decanter, then. I know that a lot of people think that it's a cardinal sin, but I've found that to make a big difference the next time around when a bottle improves halfway through.

Among the other recommendations for rye I'd toss in Pikesville 110.

You're right, I should have tried that. I don't know if I'll buy another one though - not until I try some others and see what my favorites become.

Thanks, I'll check that one out too

If you haven't seen 'Neat: The Story of Bourbon' and 'Scotch: A Golden Dream' on Hulu, you're missing out.
