We got an email from MM a few days ago - our barrel matured last year and we visited the distillery to hand dip our bottles last October. I assume it's just something that they do automatically after your barrel matures.

I've been a Crown & Coke drinker for a long time - could never really stand the stuff straight except for shots after already having had too much too much - and definitely not for sippin' as far as I'm concerned. I'm really liking the Crown Royal Black & Coke. After trying some of the other whiskies below, I drank some neat and it didn't taste like anything -- just a mild alcohol burn and no flavor.

I decided to try Scotch awhile back, then moved on to bourbons. Some that we've tried in the 8-10 months we've been "experimenting":

    1) Glenmorangie 10 - first single malt, still on the first bottle after about 8 months or so. Needs a few drops of water to open it up.
    2) Chivas Regal - blended, couldn't really tell the difference between this and the Glenmorangie
    3) GlenFiddich 12 - pretty much the same as the Glenmorangie but a bit less "harsh" (IMO). We ended up giving most of the bottle to a friend. Might grab another bottle after we finish some of what we already have.
    4) Wild Turkey - tried a small airplane bottle, didn't really care for it
    5) Maker's Mark - liked this the best so far, enough that we bought a larger bottle after drinking the airplane sized bottle, still unopened until we finish off some of the other
    6) Jim Beam
    7) WL Weller Special Reserve - was looking for Buffalo Trace, but the store I was at can't keep it in stock. This is supposedly a step up from BT. Doesn't seem too different from Maker's to me.

Some that I want to try at a bar/restaurant some time:
    1) Monkey Shoulder
    2) Highland Park
    3) One of the Japanese single malts
    4) Talisker - not brave enough to buy a whole bottle and not like it, too expensive for that
    5) Some of the Balcones whiskies

The biggest difference between the Makers and all the others is Maker’s is Red Winter Wheat. All others are Rye based. (There are a few other wheat basef, but not many)

Buffalo Trace products are "wheaters" too, right?

I’m far from an expert, but I don’t think that they are.

    Love me some Eagle Rare!

Enjoying a dram of the '16 bottling of Laphroaig Cairdeas. No less than 7 different bottlings of Laphroaig open at my house at the moment.

About a dram left in the bottle and then I'm cracking my new bottle of Ardbeg Kelpie. I love Islay malts!

Has anyone here tried the Salted Carmel Crown?

Wondering how it tastes. My brother in law likes Crown and digs the Apple one. Was wondering how the Salted Carmel compares. I imagine it's just as sweet as the Apple. Might get him a bottle over Thanksgiving.

Evan Williams Black label goes quickly at my house. For $21/1.75L, it's definitely the budget whiskey king and has been my day-to-day drinker for years. If they quit making everything else but this, I'd survive. Guess that makes it my favorite, haha.

If I want to step up in a price a little: Wild Turkey 101, Old Grandad, WL Weller, Elijah Craig, Knob Creek, Buffalo Trace all have a place at my house.

Bout the most expensive I ever go is Blanton's for bourbon. Also LOVE Elmer T. Lee but it's gotten hard to find.

I rarely drink scotch but occasionally find myself in the mood for it and will grab a bottle of Glenlivet.

Nice. I've not had the 21. Any thought on it? I like the smaller bottle. Is that Ardbeg I see peeking up from the next shelf down?

Here's the photo I shot the other day before I had some friends over to help clean some of these up. They mostly ended up drinking my craft beer, so more Laphroaig for me! That 200th anniversary Cairdeas was absolutely epic. Wish I had bought a case of it.
