My new "regular" favorite. 95% winter rye, 5% barley.
Big, rough/coarse flavors (121 proof), but none of the harsh bottom-shelf alcohol taste.

i like that report. I'll keep an eye out. one of my all time favorites can be described like that. Remy VSOP (all things relative within the cognac world, this is considered the rough side)

hope I'm not bringing this :crapstorm:

i am a fan of the cognac. but i usually prefer bourbon because i don't like it too smooth. but, as you mentioned, bottom shelf isn't what I'm after here. a lot of cognacs are about this floaty ethereal thing. i appreciate that and have a few, but what gets me going is the earthy side, a bit of natural edge, and Remy VSOP has that in spades. other cognacs tend to be pretty different from it and go for smooth all the way. Remy has their own angle and it works for me. big fan of both the VSOP & XO.

Any of you guys try some congac before? Not Hennessy. The bartender gave me a pour and it wasn’t bad at all!

Just saw this thread, got married over the weekend and my wife's brother brought a Hibiki 12 and a Don Julio 1942 with him for us to toast with. Amazing whiskey and tequila. Cheers!

Damn! I'd have bought 4 of them. Honestly. I suck down so much 1920, but pay $55 a pop. That 100 proof isn't too shabby, either. Both for $50? Great score.

One of the guys in my whiskey circle is in to cognac and armagnac as well. He's shared some stuff that is really, really good. I don't know a ton about it or remember the names, unfortunately. He has me sold on those two spirits being the thing to move to if/when the whiskey boom gets out of control. Really high quality stuff aged for 20+ years for less than $100 in a lot of cases. That doesn't exist in the whisk(e)y world much anymore.

This post needs three like buttons. One for the bottle, one for the planter, and one for the TV.

I really like WP10. I had my first bottle about 5 years ago. My brother and I bought it as a joint birthday present to each other. At first, we made sazeracs out of it (that was kind of the plan anyways). It was a damn fine cocktail. Then we had a pour of it neat and I was blown away at what a really well executed rye whiskey could taste like. I went back to the store, picked up a bottle of Rittenhouse rye (or was it Old Overholt?) for the sazeracs and we drank on the WP10 neat the rest of the way.

That's a great gift from your friend!

I REALLY like Grand Marnier 150. It's blended from extremely rare cognacs and was bottled some time ago to celebrate The House of Grand Marnier 150th Anniversary. It's pretty spendy when you can find but damn is it good.
