It’s not just before but the taper is also to help you pick out all of the nuisances of the whiskey.

So.. for comparison, I just rinsed my glass and dry and switched to some Elijah Craig to compare.
The initial smell is almost identical. The smoothness in the middle is similar but the finish on the EC is actually more Burney but only slightly.

I have that effect on people

Open, enjoy, then be sad when it's gone. It's not the Greatest Ever... But it is damn good.

Try some water and an unsalted cracker or some white bread. Should clean you palate so you can pick up the nuisances between them.

Man I thought you were gonna tell me something like Ginger or whatever they use at the sushi place.

I did drink some water.. but seriously.. they are pretty similar.. which is good news for the new bourbon.

Again.. I have never used just this type of glass...so this evening is a whole new process for me.. hopefully other can learn from my ignorance too!

Nah sometimes the water will clear but often you need the cracker/bread to really do it.

I only know it because of my master level of GoogleFoo. :D

It's crazy how much you learn and how different your taste will change over time and how you'll acclimate to higher and higher levels of ABV. Keep at it!

Was looking at the liquor to see what we have, wife has some vodka and rum, I have some cinnamon tequila, we have the salted watermelon ole Smokey, didn’t realize we had the salted caramel ole Smokey with us, some moonshines and a bottle of Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey. Rest of our liquor (majority of what we have) is in storage.

His and hers, plus a dog. She has the Bookers, watered down a little. I have the Maker’s Mark RC6. I’ve had it before from a friend, just opened my bottle however
