Peated Islay Cask Strength/High Proof Shootout! My wife poured these for me to try them blind.

    20200426_144150.jpg

I guessed ZERO of the bottles correctly. I'm retiring from whisky... never drinking again.

Pft, yeah right, that just means I need to drink MORE to strengthen my palate! Here I was considering myself a real Islay enthusiast with a half-decent palate, but I was only lying to myself

I did get the two Laphroaigs mixed up, so at least I got that distillery correct. I was plain wrong on the Blackadder though. I had assumed that it was sourced Laphroaig, but the lemon I get on it is more akin to a Lagavulin distillery profile.

Laphroaig Cask Strength Batch 10 stole the show (as I should have expected), but I had guessed that the Cairdeas Cask Strength Quarter Cask won it instead. So close. Both of those bottles are one-offs though, so that sucks if I want more of my favorite Islays to drink in the future. My saving grace is the Ardbeg Corryvreckan which came in second today. Good old Ardbeg... hard for me to argue against you as a favorite distillery. Third was the Cairdeas and the Lagavulin 12 year came in last just behind the Blackadder. Each of these are FANTASTIC bottles, and I could see myself picking different winners on a different day. This was fun though. I love it when my wife tolerates my whisky just enough to help me pour a blind flight

Hmm. I have many for different occasions. My all around go to is Four Roses single barrel. Hard to beat the price. Buffalo Trace is right there as well

However if you want to spend a bit more, Blanton's Single barrel or Whistlepig Rye are quite good. Depends on what you want to spend I guess.

    Scotch wise, Can't beat a good Glenmorangie 18 or a Glenfiddich 21.

    Still prefer Anejo tequila though.....

    A noteworthy mention.

I am not a Jack Daniels drinker but came across this single barrel select and gave it a try. Was quite good. Great Nose and taste. I would definitely buy another bottle.
