Do it. Book in advance. It’s just like airfare, the closer the date, the higher the price. If it’s an over night train book the sleeper. Highly worth it and then meals become included. (Lunch was a huge plate of steamed mussels in a white wine garlic sauce.) Some trains will have Parlor Cars just for sleeper car passengers.

I used to commute several times a month between Birmingham and New Orleans. It was just a day trip and took two more hours than driving. But it cost less than gas, no refueling stops, no bathroom breaks, and I could bring my own lunch and cocktails.

This is our third long distance trip and had such a great time! (Sacramento to Portland)

It's a great bourbon. Especially the small batch and the single barrel. For the price though, it's hard to beat Evan Williams single barrel. Up here it goes for about $37 or so.

Did chicago to denver on a train. Fun trip until it came time to shake off the motion sickness. Took a zip line run in the afternoon to displace the train rocking. I may drank too much tho

And I get a little claustrophobic on a plane. But yet I can stuff myself up under a house at work. Must be the crowd of people.
    Thanks for sharing the pics!

Sleeper rooms vary by train. Superliner vs. Viewliner.
Roomette on both is teeny tiny. Literally just two lazy boy sized chairs facing each other, that become twin bunks. Minimalist luggage or store it in the cargo area. Community restrooms.
Bedrooms are a bit bigger and what I recommend. Loveseat plus a chair. Loveseat become a full size bed and there’s still an overhead bunk (we put our luggage up there.) Bathrooms in room!

This was our room on Thursday

    Stuff. Also things.
I’ve done Denver to Salt Lake City twice now in a roomette: once on my own and once with my girlfriend. Super fun by myself, but just a little too cramped for sleeping for two of us. I’ll definitely do the bedroom for us next time when we do SLC to DEN.

Totally different experience for the better compared to flying. Super chill, you can bring your own food and booze, the food is good to great depending on what you get, and the scenery was incredible.

I don’t mind flying and opt for it if we need to maximize days at the destination.
