Haha yeah I’m just finishing up a glass, and I’ll admit, I’m no expert when it comes to good whiskey/bourbons, so I don’t have all the correct terminology if you will, but I had it neat, and I can only say that it’s pretty smooth.

Tried the Old Forester 86 tonight.
Nose - Spicy (alcohol), vanilla, pine-y/mint-y (couldn't tell if it was one or both)
Taste - Vanilla and spice (adding water made it spicier and gave it a more oaky/nutty taste but didn't do anything to the nose)
Finish - short and warm, smooth

(Note - Both Old Forester and Woodford Reserve are made by the same distiller, Brown-Forman)

Decently priced ($8 for 325/ml, $20 for 750 @ totalwine). Totalwine's "experts" say it's a 95/100. To me it didn't have as much going on as say the WL Weller Reserve, but you can still drink this neat (if you so choose).

The wife said she liked it better than the Glenmorangie Lasanta (which was her choice tonight), but I'm finding I'm leaning toward the single-malt Scotch's, especially the sherry bombs.

I have felt the same with other SOL whiskeys. Their IPA infused was the best I've had so far. Going to look for the Lovecraft Whiskey they just released this week.

After a few (ok, more than a few) drams of the Glenlivet 18 I have to say I like the Suntory Harmony better.

When at Total Wines before I was talking to one of their guys about Japanese whiskies and they only have a small selection. He said they only get a small amount of Harmony and it goes fast. I was thinking about this today when I noticed my bottle is less than half full. I just checked the local TW and BevMo on line and both said selection limited and may not be in stock. Yikes! Going to go today and see if I can secure another bottle.

The love craft sounds interesting for sure. I want to get down there and do a tour this winter.

I did get a winter sampler pack with some flavored whiskeys from them as a gift. Pumpkin, apple and honey Camomile. I was anticipating the typical NyQuil flavored additives but they all tasted like whiskey with subtle hints of what ever flavor. Flavored whiskey for people whom don’t like flavored whiskeys. Pumpkin one was great. That’s why I tried the battle cry.

Here is my current collection. Really into scotch for the past few years and recently discovered Japanese scotch which is the best I've had.

When you find it, you need to get a few.

Every single time someone posts pictures of their whiskey, it makes me want to go run out to the store and buy it and try it!

Nice collection. Have you tried Yamazaki? It used to be about $40 a bottle but the distillery was destroyed in the tsunami that hit Japan. Now it's about a hundred a bottle.

Ha, mines not as elegant as yours, I just use a old sour cream container to make mine, fits my glass just right.

I have not tried that. I'll add it to the next round.

    Decisions, decisions...

My wife went with the Weller's. I decided to give the Highland Park 12 another go.
(Edit - HP 12 wasn't as bad this time around. The brine/iodine smell and taste still overpower anything else that is supposedly there. I get no citrus, no nutiness/marzipan).

What's the best way to drink your whisk(e)y?
The way you like it! Earlier I had a Woodford Reserve neat (after a sip of HP 12), now I'm having WR with Coke & Ice.
