I would do the ER and BT if it’s something you can only get every so often.

Since you dont particularly like OWA, make the trade

for what its worth, right before COVID my state was about to release a OWA store (state) pick. so they aren't exactly ultra rare

Good, easy drinking intro to Japanese would be Hibiki Harmony. It's a blend and an easy drinker. Not "challenging" or going to smack you in the mouth. Just tasty and light. Step further would be Nikka From the Barrel, then Yamazaki 12. Hakushu 12 is also good. Light, crisp with just a bit of that peat twang. I'm not a fan of peat so the Hakushu is one that is right at the limit of my tolerance, but I do like it. Step those up to the next level and get the 18 year versions of the last 2.

Those are some of the more well known names, and as Japanese whiskey popularity continues to skyrocket, they are getting hard to find. I really try not to pay inflated secondary prices so I always have an eye out. Matt has come through on that for me once before.

Nikka coffee malt or grain are good and are easier to find. My current fav is Nikka Takesuru Pure Malt, but those are difficult to find. I've also seen a number of Nikka Miyagikyo malt bottles floating around (I have 2 and am currently drinking one but the Jury is still out on it).

If you like scotch you'll find Japanese to be familiar. So much different than bourbon.

Ok, I may be on a bit of a Japanese kick...

Picked up some MGP goodies for a buddy and saw some more Blaaack so I grabbed one and then my wife bought me one too!

12 year wine finished whiskies and a 7 year tequila finished rye. I may have to go back and grab a set for myself.

Haha I have a bottle of Blackened but it's not opened.. I know @Misplaced Nebraskan has tried it.. I was just sharing that you can get it in a boxed set now which is cool AF for me and others like @Kanyon71 who are fans.
