Has anyone else tried this? It was for a buddy's bachelor festivities a couple of weeks ago. I think I picked out this pour. Another friend picked up the tab, luckily, since it was $140 a pour, and there were 5 of us. I remember it tasting great, but we had been drinking beforehand so I wish I would've tried it before this point in the night. Great memory, nonetheless! I looked up the bottle after the fact and it goes for $499 in Oregon, currently. We should've just bought a bottle... :notsure:

I tried it at a bar at $100 a pour, I liked it. Unfortunately, I can remember how it tasted, but it was my first drink that night.luckily, someone picked up my tab, as well

Have revisited this bottle a view times and it just tastes weird to me. Get this like awkward rye taste without it being a rye. I don’t know. It’s kind of sweet but not like candy sweet or vanilla sweet or cherry sweet. Just weird. No burny burn either.
Tried it neat, tried it as an old fashioned, tried it as a Manhattan (which it almost tasted okay with).
Wondering if I just got a weird bottle or if anyone else has similar thoughts.

D37BAEDD-B99D-4A96-980E-F8EFBD257D89.jpgTrying some Naked Grouse, it’s really good for a 30 dollar blend. It’s good either way, but a few drops of water made the flavors really come out

I’d be curious what others say. I’ve always wanted to try it, since I had the ocean aged at sea cask strength and liked it

The only other Jefferson’s I’ve had was their Cabernet cask finish, from @4x4runner2002. He actually poured it for my lady friend and she loved it, I thought it was meh and pretty weird too. You could definitely taste the wine finish with it.

Both her and I agree this is weird though. If you’re ever in the area, I’d be happy to pour you a sample

I’ll have to take you up on that next time I’m up there. I felt like the ocean had a distinct flavor as well. Maybe that one is a high rye mash bill?

Finally found a bottle of Mellow Corn. Certainly not as smooth or on the level of some of my other bottles but for $25 it's not a bad way to fill a glass at all.

I've had the Black Prince and the Samurai Scientist. They are just absolutely superb ryes. I might give the nod to the Black Prince, but they were at different times and it was the first time I had tried any of the Boss Hogs from WhistlePig.

You can find the Samurai Scientist pretty easily, but for $500 retail, there isn't exactly a line of folks waiting to buy it. As with all whiskies up in that price range, your paying a bit for the exclusivity and a lot for very incremental increases in quality, so worth $500? Yeesh, that's in the eye (or liver) of the beholder. I will say, there is stuff that goes for that much or more on secondary that doesn't hold a candle to the Samurai Scientist. $140 a pour is higher than I've seen it, but if the ambiance is right and the drinks are flowing anyways, who gives a shit?!?!? :D

Very cool pour for you to share with friends and on a special occasion, no less.

$25 ought to get you two of those bottles! When I first started buying it, it was $10.49 a bottle. I think it's up to $13, now. Much more and it'll get scratched off the list. What I love about it is that it is more enjoyable and more versatile than anything else I can grab under $15.

Saw CYPB twice in the last few weeks in the wild. One at $499 and one at $699. I left both places rather promptly
