So good, isn't it? The bottle is sexy, too. It's gaining a LOT of popularity.

I had what is easily the hottest whiskey I've ever tried. It isn't Booker's good, but it's good. Dark chocolate and almonds, but it needs a couple drops of water and even then there is more flavor in the after taste than the actual sip. Super intense bourbon.

I just looked it up; another Bourbon from Buffalo Trace. They have a remarkable number of good bourbons under their umbrella.

Found Bevmo price matches Total Wine. Eagle Rare at TW is $29, BM is $35. Problem is TW rarely has it, but BM does. BM prices matches TW so I grabbed a bottle today. I've figured out the optimum number of water drops to add - makes it an outstanding deal. Thought I'd share for those of you with both stores in your area.

Blended some Poor Man's Pappy tonight. I've never tried it, but for the price, it was worth having a little fun. 3:2 of Old Weller Antique and Weller 12.

Made myself a label for it, too. Just need to pick up a couple of inks for the printer.

    Original label:

    My label:

Had a pour of both afterwards:

I've had the Special Reserve, but this is my first time trying these two. Pretty good! The Antique is a bit hotter, but not quite as refined. The 12 is nice and smooth, but perhaps on the boring side. Both still nice pours. If you can find them for retail, they are definitely worth a try. I wouldn't pay much over $30 for either, though. The 12 is going for in excess of $100 on secondary, which is bonkers to me.

I read about mixing that, but I think everybody else on the planet did too as I can't find either of the Wellers.

The question is...how many bottles did they have left after you were done?

A couple weeks ago I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare and a bottle of Buffalo Trace. The Eagle Rare certainly has a great looking bottle but personally I didn’t like the whiskey. I’ll drink it and probably use it in mixed drinks. The Buffalo Trace not so pretty a bottle but the taste was fabulous. That is now my go to whiskey either with ice or neat.

I drink my Hibiki and Blantons neat, but found with Eagle Rare I nead to add a splash of water. When I get the ratio right it is pretty damn good. Don't give up on it - just add a bit of water, wait 5 min then try. Add a bit more if it isn't tasty. If that doesn't work then put it in your mailbox, PM me your address (I see you're in NorCal too) and I'll zip on by to pick it up.

I found that after the ice cubes melt a little the eagle rare gets way way better.

    Harsh to mild and sweet.

I drink my scotch with just a drop of water.

And I like my bourbon with ice :anonymous:

I like cheap bourbon on the rocks (The cheaper the bourbon, the more rocks  ). I like expensive bourbon neat, or with a teaspoon or less of water. And all scotch neat, or also with a teaspoon of water.

This is smooth but has an after taste of wintergreen long cut skoal. Im alos not a scotch person, but wanted to try it. I'll stick with bourbon personally.

Finished off my Willett rye the other day, solid as always. Picked up this 1792 small batch for the first time tonight. I’ll let ya know what I think.
