    Looks like fun!

I did the Whiskey trail in Scotland right out of college w/my college roommates and didn’t appreciate it like I would now.

I’m trying to convince the same guys that we need a...

15 year reunion (jeez time flies) and do the bourbon trail. Jim Beam and buffalo trace included! Seems like a blast.

Same. If I'm mixing a bourbon cocktail 98% of the time it's JB.

My girlfriend found a local Bourbon Bar that has 1,500 bourbons. When we went there they had bourbon tastings, and I found a flight of Pappy's. I had to try it. The flight was Pappy's 15, Pappy's 12, Weller 12, and Pappy 10.

My girlfriend had a flight of Japanese Whiskies (scotch, bourbon...).

The Pappy's 15 was okay. It was the best of the bunch, but not the best I have ever had. The Pappy's 12 was also okay. The Weller 12 was not bad. The Pappy's 10...ummmm...errrr...it really wasn't very good.

The Nikka Coffey Grain was damn good, and the Suntory Hibiki Harmony was pretty good too. We didn't write down the other Japanese Scotches because we didn't like them as much (and they tasted very much like a scotch and not a whiskey or bourbon).

So...I can now say I have tasted Pappy's and I do not need to go out of my way to buy the 15 or the 12, and if offered the 10...I may buy it for friends, but not for me. There are MANY better bourbons than the Pappy's 10. I may try to pick up a Weller 12 at some point, but I won't be upset if it never makes it to my collection (and to that end, I will not be upset if the Pappy's 15 or 12 don't make my collection either).

Where do you live that has this magical place of fifteen hundred bourbons of which you speak? A pilgrimage to this wondrous land may be in order...

The Nikka Coffey Grain has always intrigued me. I need to find a bar that has it.

I got a bottle of Lagavulin 16 as a gift from my fiancée because of my mild obsession with Ron Swanson from the Parks and Recreation tv series.

The few drinks I’ve had so far have impressed me - but it’s got a lot of smoke flavor.

My only other experience with whiskey is Jack Daniels, Evan Williams, Jameson and Jefferson’s Ocean (which is REALLY good IMO).

Trying to decide if I should expand my whiskey palette before killing off a $100 bottle of good scotch without being able to fully enjoy it for what it is.

In Kentucky (where else). They claim they have the largest selection of bourbons in the world. Their food...is...ummm...not really anything. They have a few finger foods, but nothing substantial. You can get pizza delivered from a local pizza place.

The bar itself is called the Prohibition Bourbon Bar located in a coffee shop called Newberry Bros. Coffee.

They also have bottles of whiskey for sale that are pretty rare around us. I almost picked up a bottle of Stagg Jr, but I haven't tried it yet, and didn't know how much of a markup they were putting on it.

Pick up a bottle of Dalwhinnie and try that one out. It's got a much milder peat smoke flavor, so it's an easier scotch to start with if you don't like/are overwhelmed by the smokiness of Lagavulin. After that you could move to a bottle of Speyburn or Bowmore, JW red, etc. They're peatier than Dalwhinnie but not as strong as the Lagavulin.
That should let you get a 'feel' for the flavors you get from Scotch, so you might have better luck picking out the individual flavors from the Lagavulin after you run through these.

I occasionally travel for work - couple weeks ago I was in W. Virginia - but never seem to get anywhere I really want to go. One of these days I'll get to Vermont (WhistlePig) or Kentucky (too many to name, but start with Buffalo T).

I've heard of that ocean stuff, pretty novel concept. How much did that run you if you dont mind me askin? I always wondered if it tasted like sea spray, diesel, and counterfeit chinese goods...

Picked up a Wild Turkey Rare Breed today. Will crack it this weekend.

They also had a Bip & Tucker that looked interesting...a bit more dear in price. Anyone have input on it?

So on my way to Rock Therapy last year I stayed with @jubei one night and he showed me his awesome whiskey/bourbon collection and I realized mine was lacking. So ever since then I have started building my collection. It's small currently, but expanding every month or so.

How do you like that Jameson caskmates IPA? Another one I'm curious about and would like to try someday.

Anyone try Angels Envy Rye? I've never seen a bottle here - I understand it's somewhat rare - until today. They had a few at Total Wine. I ended up getting a Blanton's because they are getting very hard to get (love me some Blanton's) and they just got a few in.
