Let us know what you think. I remember when it first came out and I tried it. The origination and story of it is somewhat intriguing. Try it first then google it.

My boss came through town today on his way back from West Virginia, brought me a bottle of Old Scout from the Smooth Ambler distillery. Pretty good. Also brought a bottle of Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream. Really good.

Nice. Have you tried the Old Forester 1920 Prohibition? I absolutely luv it.

1920 is awesome. All types of different flavor profiles going on. And the rye is probably on of best bangs for your buck, so delicious

Of the following Japanese whiskey's, what would be the best choice? I've had some tasty Japanese in the past, but have no recollection of what label it was.

    Fukano
    Hatozaki
    Hatozaki Small Batch
    Kamiki Cedar Cask
    Kura

I'm not familiar with most of those... I've cut way back on both my acquisitions and consumption recently, so I've just been sticking to a few bottles I know I like. In fact, I need to thin my inventory of bourbon and whisky somewhat. I'll likely be posting those on another site in the near future.

I will say I did not like the Kura. I do like a hint of smoky/peat, but just a little. The Kura was too much, plus is also had other some odd taste I couldn't figure out. For me, a good balance of smoke/peat is Hakushu, however it not easy to find and is expensive when you do. An easier one to find, also with just a bit of smoke, is Nikka Miyagikyo. I was at Total Wine yesterday and they had a lot of those, along with the Nikka Yoichi. I've only tried that once and it was too much peat (but a lot less than Islays like Lagavulin).

Japan doesn't have strict laws on their whisky production, so you have to be careful as it may not actually be Japanese whisky. I favor bottles from Nikka and Yamazaki because they are a known quantity and are, IMHO, very good.
