Been 70$ and it sells out in an hour recently in VA.
It sounds like people say it is overrated for the price but maybe that is just frustration with it? I never had it.

The hype is greater than the product. Buffalo Trace did a great job of marketing a demand for an entire product line that used to collect dust. Collectors and hunters have made it a lot worse.

It is good, but not for a penny over MSRP. I’d recommend Four Roses SiB all day for &40~

    What are thoughts on:

    Buffalo Trace
    Weller SR
    Woodford double oak
    Jefferson reserve very small batch

Through a miserable work trip in KY I kept my spirits up buying stuff that I thought might be good. Didn’t have a chance to grab a pic yet. Only tried the bt so far and be fore that I have had new riff single barrel, toki and whatever standard college stuff you would expect

Up in the eastern shore area it was around $40 and was readily available on the shelf. Didnt have any issues til I rotated to CA.

It’s $60 and sells out within minutes of the store opening where I’m at. Gotta get in line outside before they open, or you aren’t getting it.

You have to go to the ABCs in Westover Hills area to have a chance in RVA now.

I think it’s mostly people who create the hype. It starts with the online reviews that they only read the first part of. They read “ its a really good whiskey” instead of “it’s a really good whiskey for $x.xx”. Weller Special Reserve is a great example. For $20ish bucks it’s a lot better than other stuff in that price range. Then it’s hard to find and outrageous on the secondary market, not nearly worth the price it sells for. Then people bash it or say overrated and it’s like, well yeah, you payed $75 for a $24 bottle of whiskey.

Also, then you mix in the single barrel aspect, like Blanton’s & McKenna, where most likely what you have is never exactly the same as what someone else has, and some distilleries are better than others with consistency across different barrels.

Picked this up last night. Always intrigued by BIB and tough to pass on a 13 year age statement.

Yeah, the people at Buffalo Trace. You can’t find any of their products because they have created hype behind their brand. They also produce less of it now to create demand through allocation. Other distilleries are copying this marketing method now.

They produce less while undergoing a billion dollar expansion? No doubt there’s some hype & marketing but let’s be real, bourbon became trendy and demand outpaced supply. They sell an aged product, can’t exactly instantly ramp up production.

I have several friends that run liquor stores or work for distributors. BT is simply sending out less product. It’s why other distillery employees are (were?) striking : allocation is bad for business.

Lol. Who doesn’t have friends that do that? Heaven Hill’s strike had nothing to do with Buffalo Trace’s allocations, which they started years ago because demand was outpacing supply. You’re simply not acknowledging supply & demand for some reason. The issue is consumer driven.
