I've seen the Henry McKenna at my local store frequently but haven't had the urge to buy and try it. However, I'd likely buy the Weller 107 though at that price just because I like Weller. The Pappy 10 is definitely too high for me to consider as well.

How is the McKenna 10? It’s at my local store.

Maybe I’m a wuss, but I’m finding I like the proofs in the 90’s much more than those above 100 like with the barrel proofs.

I have an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that everyone is so wild to find, it’s literally my least favorite. I’d rather drink Jim Beam.

Seems to be love or hate, if it’s around $40 it’s probably worth a try. But the price seems to keep going up for some reason. I grabbed one the other day for $43 to give it another try since it’s been years

Maybe I like the higher proof stuff because I always have a large chunk of ice in my glass with it.

I think all bourbon tastes better when opened up with some water. Best thing I ever did was buy a mold for the single sphere shaped ice. Big ball of ice in the glass, so much better than smaller ice. Doesn’t melt as fast, stays chilled longer.

Figured I was due to post a shot of my “collection” since it’s been a while. Problem is I don’t have one big area to keep it lol

If you were local we’d work something out. I’ve only taken one small pour.

I’d be happy just to see a bottle of it in the wild. Probably be so excited I’d buy it and immediately regret it.

So everyone, of course, has different pallet I prefer my bourbon neat and full proof. Some of them however get better with ice or water but generally the allure of a full or barrel proof is you can adjust them to your particular liking rather than having to settle for what they barrel it at. I’ll be honest I had a William Larue Weller that was 125-ish proof and it was UNREAL, I also love 1792 full proof neat. Others that I just like less need ice or water. I feel like every bottle and person is a little different which is why we should all gravitate towards what we enjoy not what the whisky reviews tell us. Like you I enjoy wheaters but also enjoy others. FWIW there is limestone water available to add drops to your bourbon…. This is what they cut it with anyway before bottling. I didn’t buy this (got some bottles at Wild Turkey during a tasting) but you can get a hold of it if you wanted.

I’m a Chicago guy originally so when I saw this bottle of Jeppson’s Bourbon out here I decided to pick it up mainly outta curiosity. Not as shitty as Malort but nothing special, at $20 not too bad. I am enjoying this Old Forester Statesman however.0AB4BBCE-2DF9-4BA8-9D39-E33707921CF7.jpg

it was 29.99 when I first started drinking it, a 10 year BIB at that price was hard to beat. I do like the juice but it’s not worth the price. I’d pay 40-45 tops

1792 Full Proof is in my favorite local store and I’ve been debating it, but to date my experience with the ECBP is keeping me away.

On another topic, anyone ever had Very Old Barton ($10.99 at said favorite store)? The manager there said people who can’t find Buffalo Trace are turning to it for a similar flavor. I found that incredibly hard to comprehend.

Haha. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a bottle for $11, maybe 15 years ago? I mean how can you go wrong! I love full proof, to me it’s warm and buttery, Delicious. But to each his own. But $11 a bottle of for Barton’s. Why not!?!?

The only reason I didn’t buy it is because I already had several bottles and I was embarrassed to add any more.

In her mind the manager would be thinking “he’s an alcoholic”.

When in fact it’s quite a different problem I have.

Very Old Barton’s BiB is a steal. Good stuff for the price point.

So I just scored this unopened bottle; Jim Beam from around 1971 I think:

The Very Old Barton 100 proof is decent to me especially for the price.

I didn't enjoy the McKenna 10 but have heard about a lot of variance between bottles and for the price I think it is worth trying, worst case it becomes another shelf turd.

I'm in the same boat as @YOTA 4X4 that I like wheaters and some full proofs and I like to drink it neat. I've tried WLW and wasn't a huge fan but some of my favorites have become Stagg jr and the New Riff SiB. I just drink them differently than I would a lower proof. I sold a barrel pick 172 full proof that I regret not trying.
