so I really enjoy Weller SR so if you paid any where near retail that’s a bargain. Buffalo trace I have always considered a good pour but as we have all seen it’s gone nuts. IMHO it’s not with chasing BUT again if it’s anywhere near retail I would 100% buy it. My BIL in Maine can get Buffalo trace for $23 a bottle at anytime…. It’s funny how different states can be.

I have two bottles of the SR, one I got for $65 and one for $80. I believe the retail used to be $25 but doubled. Shrug, I really wanted to try it, and it is VERY hard to find. Lucky to have two bottles.

The Buffalo Trace was $30 per, when it’s available locally it’s $25. I have a nice collection of these now and can ride out the next year or so knowing I have plenty to choose from.

Excellent. I can buy the SR for $80 any day…. I didn’t know that was the new going rate. They had a 1L when i was just in for $100 but I passed. I mean it’s good…. That just seems to be a dramatic escalation in price. I’m glad you snagged them. All good bottles to have. FWIW I cracked a fresh John J Bowman today…. Yum!

I guess it depends on what you consider “retail”. I bought a 1.75L Eagle Rare a few weeks ago for $55, if you look for it online it’s $200. All of the Buffalo Trace products have become high demand due to the popularity of and awards received by the Pappy, which is of course ridiculous.

So is retail what someone can pay in store? That varies widely. For example Blanton’s can be anywhere from $55 to $200 in store.

The John J. is good stuff, I’m glad people on here recommended it.

The next two bottles I want to try are Angel’s Envy and Basil Hayden Rye.

when I personally refer to retail it’s what a BevMo or total wine type store sells it for at msrp. Not your mom and pop liquor store that mark everything up to make a huge profit.
For example I can go get eagle rare at my local BevMo for $32.99 a bottle while they still have a couple.

Does a price count when the retailer doesn’t have any? BevMo has the SR listed at $29.99 but out of stock. I would be shocked to see it actually sold anywhere at that price.

I would love to have that experience. I think it has recently become much more scarce. I called every liquor store in Reno and Fallon, and everywhere in between; no one had any. I also called every Total Wine in Reno And Sacramento and anywhere in between, same deal.

Recently on a trip to Savannah I literally called most of the liquor stores we passed, that’s three states’ worth. No Weller and they couldn’t even remember when they had it last.

Before I got my hands on it, I called a few stores in locations where I have friends and family with the same result. Ohio, Colorado, California, Florida.

Ya it doesn’t come around often in the last year and a half my BevMo has gotten like 10 bottles total and I ended up most of em. I go in once a week on the day they get their allocated shipment and usually buy something and have a good relationship with the guys that work there now so they let me buy all they get in if I wanted. I also live in a smaller town and not many other whiskey hunters around so that helps.

@Hook78 all this talk made me thirsty.

the next town over has liquor store gas station that has 4 bottles of weller 12 for $200 each and they haven’t moved in 2 years. I hate buying over retail but I am tempted to get one every time I look at em.

$200 is a great price right now for the 12. I wouldn’t personally buy it but hell maybe you should and send us all samples :)

Edit: maybe make them an offer if it’s sat that long?

A guy I work with is now dating a girl that works with and I tried to see if she can get it at a discount and the owner would rather see it sit there than sell it cheaper.

Fuck him then, it’s not holy water.

I will drink the two SRs I have and the A107, but I will draw that shit out over years. I may never buy another bottle. There’s plenty of good stuff that’s reasonably priced and available.
