It sounds like we need to take a TW trip to Kentucky.

I'm seriously considering taking some vacation days off and touring a few distilleries in KY.

I am a Bourbon newb but I'm finding it pretty tasty. A little spicy neat, ice brings out some caramel notes.

I really don't think it matters. Blind tastings have shown the wine people are full of shit:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_wine_tasting

And I'd bet money it's the same for whiskey beyond a few generalities like "Sweet", "spicey", "thick/thin mouthfeel", etc. I have little doubt the rest is placebo.

I'm not saying different whiskeys don't have distinct flavors - they do - but I've never once tasted cherries, then cinnamon, then green bell pepper, then leather, then banana posicle flavor. People are talking themselves into that stuff.

Lovely green pepper, leather, popsicle notes….

Hahaha to be honest I get citrus tonight. Still short finish and light mouthfeel.

Since we're both Tub lovers...every time I drink it - long finish with alcohol warmth throughout. You get that too?

How’s that Mellow Corn? Forgive me if you’ve reviewed it on here before. Saw it at Heaven Hill but it was cheap as hell so I thought it may not be great.

I am not him but it's the perfect whiskey for reminiscing and/or recreating your college drunkenings.

Hahaha well it’s kinda a Reddit whisky joke.. it’s not bad…. But it’s not great lol. Gives me a little heartburn sometimes lol.. i think it’s a fun bottle sweet and like you said cheap!!!! But if you get on some whisky forums it’s kind of a cult bottle. I figured I’d better have one. Sits up top though where I don’t mind it getting hit by the sun.

Same whisky hug. Feels spicey to me too, hesitate to specify a specific one. Cinnamon is fine.

That's kinda my point - there are definitely some consistent attributes there. I wouldn't be at all surprised that details vary by person though.

Coconut is coconut, but it's certainly controversial on the taste/texture front.

So I’m in Ocracoke, NC, an island on the Outer Banks. Small island, that has taken pains to keep away any chain hotels, restaurants, anything, and preserve it’s old fashioned, unique feel. Tiny town on one end of the island.

There’s a single ABC here literally the size of my living room. Respectable selection for the size of the place. So I asked the lady at the register about allocated bourbon, she said there was a single bottle of Blanton’s and a couple bottles of Buffalo Trace a week ago. They get their entire shipment on a truck that comes over by Ferry every Thursday afternoon, so I was told to call the mainland store that sources the shipment and ask what would be in it.

The lady at the mainland store told me that the rural areas have had their allocations cut steeply in favor of the cities and their bigger stores. So Ocracoke will no longer receive allocated liquor, period. The most exciting thing coming on Thursday is an OF Prohibition 1920.

A sad day for the island.

1920 is great. Definitely better than Buffalo Trace lol
