Favorite Whiskey?

Today’s picks. Stopped on the way home, as I mentioned yesterday I needed another Fable and Folly as my other is almost gone, and I can’t resist a HH BiB for $45 even though I have an unopened one already. GREAT bottles for the money.

Please tell us all about that. I look it up and down and read lots of reviews but for some reason i can’t commit to buying a bottle of that…. Weekend??? You must work some kind of ridiculous schedule like me….

We have discussed it before, but the short version from me is: Top marks, get it, keep it around at all times.

Here's the fun part: It was originally made at the Bernheim Distillery, then Diageo bought the brand, sold Bernheim to Heaven Hill (who still has it) and for a while IW Harper was only available overseas. Then, Diageo brought it back to the US using whiskey sourced from...Heaven Hill at Bernheim Distillery, where the original stuff was originally made.

They age the Heaven Hill stuff at Stitzel-Weller, which Diageo owns and doesn't distill at but does use for aging, and bottle it out into the current I.W. Harper 15.

So if you like stuff from Diageo and Heaven Hill, which you certainly do because all the Orphan Barrels are from Diageo and Heaven Hill BiB is from Heaven Hill, then you will like this stuff.

Anyway thank you for the excellent description, to be honest, and it sounds lame to type it, I’m big time turned off by the bottle. For some reason it reminds me of what an old lady would decorate her house with lol…. I do like HH quite a bit, and I really like older juice…. Perhaps I can get past being vain about the bottle, or maybe I’ll pour into into crystal lol…. Seriously though. Thank you!

It’s 100% true that the bottle looks like a decoration from grandma’s house. Indisputable.

Thats perfectly Diageo. Thats why all the Orphan Barrel bottles have labels that look like bottom shelf apple-cinnamon flavored bird dog, or maybe illustrations from children's books.

 

It’s excellent. It used to be on the shelf all the time at my one favorite store, but hasn’t been in for a while. This is my second pour and I really enjoy it, I’ll buy another bottle as backup as soon as it comes back to the shelf.

I prefer children’s books to grandma’s house. However at the end of the day all I give a shit about is the taste.

Do you know the answer to that??? I’ve heard MB 1 or MB 2 I’ve also heard both mixed, and it’s distilled again reguardless of what it starts as…. JJB is absolutely one of my favorites. I always have a few bottles on hand.

 

I’ve read it’s made from a mix of barrels made from BT mash bills #1 and #2. The bottles made with #2 are a really interesting collection.

 

Theres never been a press release but People Who Know People have gotten reliable word about it being BT mashbills 1 + 2 in some mix.

I ain't care, I love that shit too. Unopened bottle of the Bros on my shelf right now.

 

Went to my local to get EW 1783 but they didn't carry it. What can you expect from a liquor store attached to a gas station where the guy running it is super nice and they only charge MSRP. MSRP is hard to find sometimes in SC. He didn't have 1783 but said "I'll order it. Come back Friday". It's WT101 in the mean time. Way better then it ought to be! 1L for $38.

 

WT 101 is what I gave my bourbon-ignorant buddy as a gift to get him started the other day. A faithful standby!

 

Ok than…. To keep this thread interesting tonight what do you think YOUR most attractive bottle is. One you own right now, what’s the best looking bottle ya got????!?!?!????


I think this might be my favorite looking bottle. This or BLANTON’S I think they look great. Also my Lot B is pure class but almost too simple. So yes tonight I think this is the best looking bottle I own.
