Where's he live? I'll sit on his dog as much as he wants if I get free WT each time.

Today’s score. I drive down to Baltimore once a week for work (hour drive). Over the past few months I’ve been scoping out liquor stores not far off my route. Went to a few today and found this gem. Weller, along with E.H. Taylor have been my unicorns. Never seen in a store. So while this is only the SR, I’m very excited about it.

I was recently at Costco and stumbled on this for about 25 ish I think. Not bad not the best but still good. At first I got a blast of maple sweetness that settled into a pronounce rye and it pretty much stayed there. I know some say ice is the best thing for whiskey and some don’t but I prefer ice myself. Definitely worth 25 but in all honesty I prefer Larceny or Elijah Craig if your going for budget but still a good whiskey.

Didn’t realize 1792 was a Sazerac, though I never looked into it lol. Just shows how few are owned by the “distillery” per se

If I've learned nothing else about bourbon in the last 5 years, it is that it is straight up incestuous.

Over 300 labels on the shelf, and only 15 distilleries that aren't "craft/micro" operations. I keep chasing and chasing this stuff because, like that Kentucky Owl conversation we had a couple days ago, there are a lot of LLCs out there trying to 5x or 10x on some cheap, sourced, subpar juice.

Also, this is a 2020 image, so it does not note that the Bowmans are under the Sazerac umbrella as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sazerac_Company#Distilleries

Yea, I mean the fact is the good ol distilleries and labels are owned by a huge beverage company but they at least keep making good bourbon. And unfortunately it’s really hard to get into the game since you need so much time to produce a good bourbon compared to something like beer

    Yeah.

I have no problem with NDPs per se, but be honest about what you're doing. Too many of them are trying to upsell on a cool bottle and made up backstory. I'd love a law requiring distillation source to be listed on the label. Age is sort of covered with BiB and "Straight" requirements. And age is hardly the whole game anyway. Old ass whiskey can be great or horrible, depending on what happened during all those years.

I agree, they make a blend of something that shall not be named saying it’s the newest (oldest?) best thing and who knows what it tastes like till you try it lol. But that’s probably the only way they think they’ll shake things up, some nail it and others suck…

Some transparency or standards would be great, but in the end everyone has different tastes and lots of folks will buy stuff based off what they think is cool. We just have to decider through the bs

True. In terms of how to "shake things up", that's probably why Wild Turkey is my favorite distillery/brand. Simple. Make their own shit from start to finish. Two core brands. That's it. One time, small batch releases on a regular basis (Master's Keep, the limited Russell's, etc.). Not much in the way of silly fluff (American Honey/Sting and Longbranch are things, to be fair). Known best for basic ass WT 101, Rare Breed barrel proof, and 10yr version of their premium line all because they are excellent in their categories, priced well, and easy to find.

All around, it's exactly what I want my whiskey company to be. /fanboy rant over.

Given that I like so many of the Beam products, this makes me want to try Baker’s more.

I saw a Bakers today at an ABC store I don’t typically go to, never seen it. I might go back for it tomorrow.

Which reminds me, if you haven't, you really oughta try a pour of Old Tub sometime. $25 bottle, and it's Unfiltered Beam. It is, in my humble opinion, an absolutely stupid good deal and no one seems to be paying attention.
