Picking up a scotch for a buddy's housewarming gift tomorrow. I've gifted him Glenfarclas and Macallan expressions in the past. He likes Compass Box stuff, but I'm trying to expand his horizons a bit. Last time we met up, he had some Lagavulin 16 and loved the stuff, so peat is definitely top of mind.

Looking to spend between $50-100. I'll open up to the floor for suggestions. Thinking whatever Ardbeg I can get in that range? Talisker?

Maybe the laphroaig 10. Not too spendy and peaty as all get out.

Sprung the extra $25 and ended up getting Talisker Distiller's Edition. Worth it since I'll share a good portion of that bottle with him. :D

Ya, that's what I just tried for the first time last week. It's a good daily driver.

Just picked up a new one...

My price and yours will vary CONSIDERABLY...I'm in Ontario Canada. Prohibition still exists here. The wellers here is cost effective @ 39 bones. The Evan Willams comes in at the high 50s

Ya, if ya ever want to feel better aboot what ya paid for a bottle down there...visit the link below. It's our only option. Liquor Control Board of Ontario. They are the Govt Retail Outlet for Ontario and the ONLY place you can't buy spirits legally in Ontario.

Yup, pretty slick website considering its a govt monopoly

Excellent. I'm partial to ryes, and I'm not terribly hard to please, but I love this one. I like whiskeys that bite your pallet and not your wallet.

This ones more exciting than your average rye that's for sure. I've considered getting the Campfire, I even had it in my hand ready to head to the register once before changing my mind. I'll get it one of these days. My problem is I'm on the road a lot (sleeping in the back of the Tacoma) and I like to buy local whiskeys to keep me company back there, so I generally grab bottles I've never heard of in favor of familiar ones. That's how I found High West actually, I was doing a show and subsequently camping in the Park City area and the Double Rye was calling my name.

If you like ryes (I love them), try Pikesville Rye. My favorite so far. Angels Envy rye is really good, but not at the price they sell it for, and it's hard to get.

I hadn't heard that. I regularly check in with a guy at the local Bevmo about what they have in. I asked him about Pikesville a month or so ago; he said they get regular shipments and showed me on his screen the frequency. I hope it hasn't been discontinued! I just bought a bottle this week... I may need to pick up a few more.

Edit - I google searched it to see. Turns out the old brand - Pikesville Supreme (80 proof) - was discontinued some time ago and people horded the bottles. The distiller then started producing the Pikesville 110 that we have now.
