Why would he unretire again???? I think he got 10-12 million reasons for this season. Who wouldnt unretire for that much cash? MInnasotans may have a winner on there hands again finally after all those years without Fran Tarkenton.

    Brett Favre Signs with Vikings
    [IMG]Posted 8/18/2009 5:49:00 PM
Brett Favre signed today and is in camp right now. Of course he is. What's an August without Favre parading around like some peacock, shrieking "Look at me! Talk about me!"

Never has mediocrity come at such a high price. Not for the Vikings at $10-million, but for sportsfans who will be forced to spend the next ten days watching a breathless Chris Mortensen blather about text messages received from Favre.

I can't say I blame the guy. If I had the ability to fart and have ESPN's satellite trucks placed on high alert and speed from Bristol to southern Mississippi, I would probably do the same. Favre has his whole life to enjoy irrelevance. Why not drive ESPN and Mort crazy with antics and his assimilation into the Vikings culture.

It won't mean anything to the Vikings, other than virtually assured mediocrity, but what do the knuckleheads in the great white north have to talk about now with the Twins being all but out of the AL Central race, the PGA being over, and the T-Wolves being the least interesting franchise in all sport?

The fact is that Favre is not going to become less brittle than he's been over the past couple of seasons, and his utter insistence on playing every game. He started last season for the Jets as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and finished as one of the worst. The is the curse of approaching 40.

We've seen it from Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath (although that was a more severe example than Favre), and even Vinny Testaverde - who only qualifies because he played when he was old. He was capable of brief flashes of excellence, and then an erosion of ability that could be seen advancing with each succeeding play.

The crowds in Minnesota will go wild when Favre leads the Vikings to eight wins, and will die a little with each of the eight losses Favre causes with his erratic and selfish performances.

In the interim, get ready for ESPN's 24/7 Favre-watch '09. The first ten minutes of Sportscenter, I will flip to the MLB Network for some baseball because I just cannot take this Favre bullshit anymore.

I'm already tired of the future ESPN coverage next off season about whether Favre will return for the 2010 season.
