Here's my second try. It came out pretty good IMO. Wiped down with alcohol, sprayed 2 coats of AP, 3 coats of primer and sanded primer with 600 grit. Gonna do one more coat of primer tomorrow (I ran out). My paint was supposed to come in today, but now USPS is saying the 20th .

Well thanks for your help guys!

I gotta say, the primer itself is pretty much a perfect match to Super White. Held it up to my truck and couldnt really tell a difference other than the shine. I was almost tempted to just spray clear coat over the primer lol

my build has my write up of my process. i sanded the crap out of it til there was abolutly no shine left in it. i did a very light coat of primer first, let it dry, then add 2 more coats of primer, then your coats of paint, then coats of clear. have had zero issues except a couple of very small and unnoticable chips around the perimiter.

Yeah, I didnt sand the chrome enough which is why i messed up the first time, plus it was 103 degrees outside and a little humid when I did everything.

Your grille came out good though!

Well I finished my grille. The color was a perfect match... untile I added the clear coat . The clearcoat gave it a slight eggshell tint to it. I'm thinking of sanding it down and repainting, but without a clear coat.

Is a clear coat really necessary? The paint itself was already glossy on it's own and matched perfectly.

The clear coat is helpful for protecting the paint. I wonder if you could use the 3M paint flim to protect it without the clear coat

the clear coat will not shine properly if the air has high humidity. just keep that in mind. and if you do or don't wet sand the clear make sure you hit it with a rubbing compound and a polish. that will help shine it up.
