I want to move back out to the boonies. Out in the West boonies where the powder snow is.

Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin with this statement ^^^

All of the very best learning I have done in my life, my relationships, and most succinctly, my career, was from messing with things I did not understand. It is precisely my ability to get in there and figure shit out, that has fed my family and secured my employment.

OP is now both “wise” from his mistake, and, lo-and-behold, knows the “ins and outs” of what he’s messing with. Bravo!

OP.....thank you for giving me hope for the future. Keep up the learning. It will serve you well.

    Not really.
You just need to learn what you're going to be doing before doing it yourself.

I can't say learning as you go is an issue but with something as important as brakes it's probably best you know what you're doing before working on them.

Yeah I wouldn't have approached it that way but ..... he did reach out and got it sorted! That is a win for him and a win for this community!

There might be someone else down the road that looks at this and does a "OMG I saw that somewhere!" moment

It's been so long now but Tahoe Nevada side outside of Carson City was nicely uncrowded

Well I went from living in a population of over 3 million. Now the 2 closest towns have a total population under 200...lol..I'm the only 3gen in both towns..:D

And speaking for myself, I've always learned by doing without knowing how. Just how I learn. I've fixed things after many have tried with no luck. I've also done what should have been a 30 minute job that turned into hours or days. Most of us have done it and stuff happens. :hattip:

Yup! I always try to tinker.

Might work out or it might not.

I totally know about "mods" or "simple" things on vehicles that turn into a bloody mess. Just ask my wife!

Hell I built a "paint booth" to do a bed spray and it turned into a nightmare when I forgot to close the area and our two dogs thought it was fun to "play"...........LOL

Fair enough. It’s just a generational thing between you and me. When I first started buggering on cars there was no YouTube, no internet, and heck....no computers.....except at NORAD.

You had to figure it out for yourself, so you did, maybe with a little help from a Chilton manual. That’s how I came up through the ranks, and I’m grateful for it. There are probably still guys in Africa, Asia, etc who are learning the old fashioned way.

Funny thing is times have changed so much......but those darn drum brakes are exactly the same!!! With all the same problems!

    12. We use to watch vids to learn how to start fire's and build exotic things u can't just buy. Now he spends too much time watching opinionated blable and shear entertainment crap. Then comes to me to ask me how to spell something and how to do something.

I've always wanted to do more wielding less composite. Got a job over the summer at a steel manufacturer. To paint single stage, I hate painting but I'm highly skilled at it from the yachting industry. I make more than the welders and I'm learning, starting with the language.

    1) I had been suspecting that they were not adjusted properly ever since the entire drum assembly was replaced by a shop about a year ago. Front pads have been wearing out excessively. Also e-brake has not worked for a year and they were so far out of spec that the “reverse and pump” method would never work.

    2) Clean them out. Recently went wheeling through some swampy/muddy water here in the Everglades and had the truck sitting water (got stuck in a water crossing) long enough to get about an inch of water inside the cab. I’m kind of infamous on TW for my previous experience with mud inside my drums.

I think this thread has run it's course.

Probably an "off topic" thing at this point.
