You ever had a Nissan Frontier? As bulletproof as they get. Just outdated like the Tundra

Those old traditions can be tough to over come sometimes. Ive never used anything more than 87 in other vehicles but with these newer high compression engines things are diffeeent

My advice to the OP is when you next time your gonna be towing, fill the tank with 91/93 octane and see if it helps.

Is it possible to get a “I hate my Tacoma” or “trading in my Tacoma” stickied thread.

I stopped reading forum because I am little tired of seeing the same thread topics over and over again.

I know it will never happen but I think the Tacoma needs the 4.7l iforce engine option. I have that in my 2000 tundra, a refreshed version for the tacoma would be killer. I was holding out for the diesel taco but I don't think that will ever be released here in the US. I think the OP needs a different truck to meet his needs. The taco imo is a fun trail truck but definitely not a truck I would regularly tow with.

It does get exciting sometimes on fridays but i know what you mean, people post same old shit a lot of times.

3rd gen tacos are great trucks, if you know how they work. The engineers who designed them are pretty smart.

I always reccomend people look at a new or certified pre-owned Frontier Pro-4x instead of a 100k+ 2nd gen. They come with all the features people wanted in their 2nd gens and none of the driveability issues or frame rot. Any substantial issues they had were sorted out by 2010.

I dunno. I was tired of my 06 SR5's crusty frame, engine clatter, driveline vibrations, seating position and complete lack of features. No way I was paying a premium for another one at the time.

you don't understand this....It runs and shifts like crap and I only ran it up to 80 to see if it would carry a taller gear (4th) without hunting, it didn't.

I just towed a 3900 and 4800lb lift with mine. It grabbed a lower gear going up a hill and rarely even shifted. I must have really gotten a rare bird.

what “old tradition” are we talking about here? An engine is either a high compression engine designed to burn high octane or it’s not. If it’s not, burning high octane does nothing but lighten your wallet quicker.

Is somebody forcing you to click on the threads? There are lots of different ones to choose from. Don’t click or read the ones you don’t like. There, problem solved. You’re welcome...

Or maybe a common one because people who have them don’t come on here to bitch about them? I have a good one too. Willing to bet that’s the case.

Really?? I might call BS on his claim.

I bought a new 2008 AC auto (see date I registered here) and had the same exact issues you have now. I simply dumped the Taco and bought a F150 with a proper V8.

Problem solved. No more hunting gears on the highway, had more hp, more torque, and I got the same mileage.

I don't tow anymore and went back to a Taco. In the ten years in between my two purchases the Toyota hasn't changed much at all. It isn't really a truck designed for towing or hauling...

My 2008 w/4.0 Auto would hunt gears on the highway even when not towing..My 2019's 159 hp 2.7 Auto does the same, but I knew what I was get into. I would never tow anything with a Taco. Can it be done? Sure! But it is clearly not something that it likes to do and there are much better options out there.

I rented a Frontier from Enterprise, and it was a very well made truck, price wise Frontiers are a better deal, but resale wise Tacoma's beat them.

I have no idea what you’re talking about because my engine doesn’t do that at all. Also, Toyota recommends 87 octane. I think the engineers know more than you.

I agree with OP that Toyota crapped the bed on the 3rd gen. However, I got an OV Tune and manual transmission so....

As far as buying another truck, imagine how much gear hunting a 10 speed ford does LOL I think the raptor doesn't even come with a v8 anymore.

Stop being lazy and get a manual transmission.

So when I go into s mode and go to 5,it prevents the truck from going into 6? But let's it shift anywhere lower than the set gear? I've never tried this
