This should also be a lesson to him. If it's your first time out wheeling you really need to be vocal about it and let the more experienced guys help you. If you feel like you need a spot on even the easiest of obstacles don't be afraid to say something. It isn't worth it to kill your truck or get hurt. (3,2,1 ready for the shit throwing after the last comment)

Speaking of recovery ... I plan on getting a winch with synthetic line in March ... so what winch accessories do you guys recommend I start looking for? Specific brands to use or avoid would be great too. List so far:

    • tree saver
    • snatch block
    • winch extension line

Here’s what I have and had worked for all situations I’ve been in so far.

    Factor 55 flat link
    Smittybilt snatch block
    Arb winch extension strap
    15’ tree saver
    8’ tree saver
    3 shackles
    Winch blanket

I would also like to add a couple soft shackles

I have the smitty snatcher as well. Its worked well for the 2 times its seen use.:anonymous: all my gear is the best priced/rated stuff you find on Amazon. I have several soft shackles from https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BDB1UOO?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
They seem pretty beefy and not to much $

You cant go wrong with this tree saver
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Z8R7T3Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

    Good strap

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000I60HV8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

Again this is just budget minded gear that will do the job.

Get two snatch blocks. You won't use both very often, but once in a while (especially if you're out by yourself) you'll need to change which line direction twice. ....
